Hope everyone is ok back home and the weather is not to bad, we're on our fourth day of 30 degree heat and I think Im getting used to it!
We've had a busy few days in Bangkok visiting temples and wandering about taking it all in and today i our last day here before we move on. On sunday we set out to visit the grand palace and temple but on theway we met a bloke who was from the tourist authority who told us that it was closed until 2pm due to a official state function. Apparently the kings sister has recently died and there has been loads of fuss here about it because they royal family are highly regarded by most thais. He suggested we visited the big buddha temple and hailed us a tuk tuk. The big buddha was amazing! 32metres high and covered in gold mosaic tiles and just massive!
After this we got talking to another thai bloke who marked on our map a load of temples we should visit, hailed us a tuk tuk and negotiated a round trip to all for just 20baht (30p)! The temples were really cool, really colourful and the scent of the incense and jasmine was everywhere. Unfortunately we parted company with our tuk tuk driver as he wanted to take us on a shopping trip. Rach was having none of it, jumped out told me to pay him and off we marched. We got a taxi back to our guesthouse and had some lunch.
Tuk tuks are amazing but you have to be so careful because some are really genuine and others are trying to scam you. We have only encountered the scamming type!!
Yesterday we went to visit the golden mount, a temple built on this hill. The views were amazing but not much to see there. In the afternoon we went to try and find the trainstation we need to use to catch our train to kanchanaburi. The station is across the river from us so we had to take an express boat which was really fun and cost 30baht (50p). It was really hot yesterday and we both struggled but we found the station, got a timetable and found out the correct fare so all is set. It was really interesting wandering through a less touristy part of bangkok because it was a much more accurate representation of life in the city.
Today we are finally going to try to visit the grand palace and temple and then we are going to spend the rest of the day sorting out our luggage, laundry and money because tomorrow we are leaving bangkok for kanchanaburi, site of the bridge over the river kwai.
Hope everyone is managing without us! lol!
