Greetings from sunny, humid Queensland!! We have been in Queensland since we left Byron Bay on Tuesday morning. Before arriving in Brissybane, we had a brief stop in Surfers Paradise! When i say brief, i can only thank god it was brief! Lloyd and myself cannot work out either where the "Paradise" bit comes into it....weird. Anyway it wasn't that we didn't like Surfers, well actually it was that. When you see the pictures you might think it was a lovely place or whatever, yes it was nice but it had way tooooo much Costa Del Sol going on. Too many high-rises and the people were'nt that nice, especially when two best of mates walk down a street at night together having a giggle when an arrogant skinny aussie duuuuuuude decides to call us "Faaaaggots". Of course, being that we are welsh and had a belly full of lager, we turned around to ask him what he said, he ended up landing one each on the Nutkins and Koala and then his mates came in to have a cheap shot. We were not impressed. they obviously were as they ran away laughing. I just hope that those 5 kiwi lads we bumped into manged to find Skippy and the rest of his Kangaroo crew to give them a good hiding!
Anyways, this was our weekend and the rest of our week in Byron and Surfers:
We last left you with stories of Nutkins and Koala trying to dump tackle each other in the surf of Byron Bay. To say the least, the weekend was not much different! but we did manage to find some other things to do to pass the time! On Saturday, Lloyds cousin Sam had to go to work which left the dangerous duo with a spare Aussie car....now what were we going to do with that??! ROADTRIP!!! Lloyd had heared about this little town about an hours drive away from Byron called Nimbin. Now, bearing in mind that Byron is the typical beach town with incense shops and hippies on every corner, Nimbin was not going to be that different.....okay! Basically, years ago, Byron was full of weed smoking druggo's and tourists were put off by this, obviously! So, in an attempt to attract more of us fellow backpackers, someone on his high horse pushed all these druggo's inland to, yes you guessed it - Nimbin! Now we went to Nimbin for comedy and not for the jamaican woodbines that are sold there. The place is a small, quirky town with litterally one street with Cafe's and shops. thats it. Police kind of turn a blind eye to the weedy shenanigans that go on here. We pull over in Nimbin to park the car, we get out, lock the car, two seconds later "Heeeeeey duuuuuuuudes........would you guys, like to..........buy some weed?" No thanks was the reply and the happy little hippy danced off in his Jesus Shoes.
So that was saturday and then we went to our watering hole in Byron for a few cheeky ones during the cricket.
Sunday was another adventure waiting for the dangerous duo who had now picked up another partner in crime - Sam!! Two became three and the Three Surfer-teers went off in search for another action packed day! Sam had a bright idea of taking a drive to a nearby National Park, fantasic opportunity for some Really Wild show goings on and perhaps get chased by a Wombat or something. Anyhoo, Minyon Park falls was our destination. A fresh water, waterfall with a pool underneath. Lush. we arrived, and Sam failed to tell us that there would be the best part of an hours walk down to the pool. Diolch yn fawr as they say back home!!! the walk turned out to be something of an experience as we actually saw some wildlife! OOOOOOOOOOOH! a diamond back Python. turns out this thing can give a nasty bite as well as strangle you. I had to be the ginuea pig of course! you know i love the attention! so i got quite close to the snake but it did nothing, it might have been dead. if not dead, definately sunbathing! So that was Minyon. We found the lake and had a swim...tidy! lush pics. we arrived back in Byron later in the arvo after a strenuous drive, went for a meal watched a band...had an early night cos someone was doing a skydive in the morning!!
Monday saw Lloyd jumping out of a plane and putting faith in a guy to open a parachute! I have seen the evidence, Lloyd did officially s*** himself. Now personally, I have to query - the guy who did the tandem dive with Lloyd has done something like 3000+ dives. surely your luck is going to run out one day??! thats my thoughts anyway, yes i too skint to dive out a plane im sorry. I like heights, they dont bother me but paying to jump out of a plane....not Koala cool. On monday, we also met up with two fellow dragon boys in the form of Owen "Juicy" James (whom i work with back home) and his travel partner. Now Juice has been in Australia for the best part of a month and was yet to go in the sea for a swim because he is scared he might bet eaten. loser! Koala and Nutkins met the other duo down the beach for some arfternoon frolics! as soon as juice told me he hasnt been in the sea, the first thing i did was pick him up and dump his skinny body in the sea. "relax juicy, sharks dont eat anything skinny!!!"
So that was that, Byron had given us some good times and some awesome times. New South Wales had to now say farewell to the two favourite non-aussies as Queensland was our next port of call.
not going to say much about Surfers cos i didnt like it, in other words - S H I T H O L E! we did have a fair few giggles in Surfers though. one in particular was the ongoing competition on Lloyder Vs Murf - this time....Crazy Golf! not exactly my strength in golf, I am more of a short play kind of player so putting was bit difficult for me etc. We also ventured into a water park a short bus ride away from Surfers. we did have a giggle there and the best ride there has to be the lazy river things. That was awesome - Again boys being boys we had to put the competative edge in - trying to kapsize each others rubber rings. laters XX
