Day 134- Thames had a great little Saturday market on in the main street full of home-made goodies. After walking the whole market Lloyd bought a jar of Manuka honey and we gave in to a mussel fritter and a caramel cake for later in the day. The mussel fritter was amazing, the lady served it in bread and told us to put some sweet chilli sauce on - good advice. Before heading back to the car we stopped at a charity shop and picked up some cassettes for the car, we were over the moon to find; James, Simon and Garfunkel, Disney and Hollywood classics and Rock and Roll melodies. So back in the car it was my turn to drive and we had the tunes blasting. The road was so winding it was like a rally track but fun to drive. We checked in to our hostel in Coromandel town and headed out for a walk through a Kauri tree forest. The walk took us up to a few different look out points where we got some really amazing views. Back at the hostel we made some coffee and ate our caramel cake from the market. We had a little walk in to the tiny village then just caught up with our diary back at hostel. We got all dressed up and drove to 'The Mussel Kitchen' we had pre-booked a table and we were given a lovely spot outside, as it was a Saturday there was a singer on who was really good. I ordered mussels in garlic, bacon, onion, parmesan cream sauce and Lloyd ordered mussels in yellow thai curry, the sun was shining and we sat with our glasses of wine and beer. The evening was perfect, the mussels were New Zealand Green Lipped mussels and were the biggest and most delicious we have ever had in our lives. They were served with sour-dough bread and I couldn't even finish. Extremely satisfied we drove back, stopping off at the village bar for a drink. Lovely evening.
