Ok so Firstly...that is NOT San Diego in the picture - you will have to look on facebook for that!
Right, so this is the third road trip through CAlifornia and probably the one with the most HEAT...WE took a trip avoiding the pacific coast Highway this time, or though I had the feeling that we might fall off a cliff like in Veronica mars and kill some high school students so it was a good thing we took the Highway. Anyway... Our plan for San Diego was to check into our hotel (thank you mummy and Daddy Fisher) on the main strip and go bag ourselves two hotty army men - who needs brains when you have brawn right.
We did however end up arriving later than we expected due to a quick stop in Red Rooster, oops. So we took our dolled up selves to...wait for it... HOOTERS. Yes that fine establishment where nothing beats a good cherrycolada and some chicken wings. (we actually had margaritas but who cares). Friday night foray into San Diego was cut short by rapid sleepiness, but the light of day soon sorted things out.
Saturday was spent walking around the main streets and up along the sea front. The shopping streets are quirky and slightly European looking with lots of taverns sarnie shops and little back street bars, it has a new orleansy feel to it. Our foray took us past all the trams and along a scenic walk past the conference centre. You should make the most of the water fountains and parks along the street, it was hilarious getting tangled up in a swing!
We took some cold drinks and headed out to the beach and the dock where sunshine greated us. There are some adorable little shops and cafe's facing the river, so we purchased a few magazines and did the girly thing. Reading on the dock was probably a highlight, there are lots of vendors and crazy people pretending to be robots. Its like the south bank on-sea. Well worth a visit.
The evening was a better jump into San Diego night life...We dived head first into the Black piano bar full of people dolled up to the nines and when we realised we were the only people in jeans unable to afford a beer we drank quickly and headed for somewhere a little LESS classy. Avoiding Hooters this time, we found an Irish bar with a live band. Two Guiness's later and we were squashed in the smelliest quirkiest Blues bar, full of english people and old men. The music was great and the atmosphere a little scary, but all the same well worth the 5 dollars.
The next blip in the story was down to me, who didnt bring her passport with her to San Diego...so I couldnt get into any of the clubs... DUMB huh! We pottered along to the hotel bar, ordered food and sat with a few beers. The end...no kidding.
SUnday brought the Wildlife park...also the hottest day EVER on the trip so far, but definatly worth it. We arrived around 2pm and started the long walk down to the Safari trip...it was bizarre suddenly being out in the desert seeing the mock habitat of Lions, tigers, rhino, elephants, zebra etc all living harmoniously just outside some of the biggest cities in California. This park is well worth a visit, for its sheer size and if you are an animal lover then its top dollar... The elephants were definatly the piece de resistance... :D
= road trip back to Calabassas.
