This is the start of my Travel blog.
I am just having breakfast with Lisa in her appartment that looks over the hudson river. The weather is clear and we can see her ladyship liberty from out my bedroom window. It is such a surreal experience.
We saw Will Ferrel live last night at the Cook Theatre, for his Bush tour. 1 1/2 hr show on the hilarity that was and is George W Bush. In all hilarious.
I have many stories to add to this but just to wet the appetite...
Crazy Boring Brocklyn man...DUCK...AVA bar and apple martini's...
Day one:
Arrive in JFK to find out that my bag is ridiculously heavy, to the point that I get really funny looks when I struggle to get it on my back. I navigate the air train and meet this Scottish girl called Kate, who tells me all about the million and one things in NYC that she has planned and puts me to shame. I on the other hand, am feeling exhausted after the 3 great days in Belfast, and have a REALLY husky voice. Anywho...we get on the hour long subway journey on the A train to Chambers street. Was met by lisa and taken to her retro apartment block opposite the Hudson river with New Jersey fully lit ahead. The evening started off with food from Buddies, a meatloaf and mash later (ohh and free cupcakes and the worlds GREATEST black currant pie) I decided that I needed to lay off the food. Sleep ensued.
DAY TWO:
Morning kicked off with a getting my new US phone, then to haggling with the NYC sight seeing tour. Despite being on a budget, we haggled with the tour bus and got 72 hours on our ticket. We couldn't see anything because of the fog, so the deal was utterly worth it. The downtour tour was fascinating, going around the fashion district, East side, west side, greenwich village (which is where I want to live, around from SJP and MB) through Soho, Noho, Nolita, and down to the Ferry port. At this point LIsa and I got really excited about the tour and decided to get on the Brooklyn one, 2 hours around DUMBO, RAMBO and BRooklyn Heights. BUt in short both of us pretty much fell asleep at this point, the guy was REALLY BORING and the driver didnt know where he was going! :S We then went back up downtown toward China town and pottered through the streets. My first picture taken in new York was off some moving boxes of SHRIMP. Lisa thought it would make for an amusing story as the shrimp on sale was moving... We arrived after some difficult chinese food decisions we landed in this little place on the corner of Columbus and set down to order CRISPY DUCK... what arrived was half a duck griddled on a plate. It was the fattiest thing I have ever seen. We asked the waiter for the pancakes and the sauce and he looked horrified when we asked for 6 pancakes...and then said it would cost us $4.75 for the cucumber. HILARIOUS... so we sat and picked manically at the DUCK... there was nothing crispy about it. The evening kicked off with a sports bar off time square (not managing any food, curtesy of the DUCK we ate bleurgh) Anyway, we went round the corner to Cook Theatre and watched Will Ferrel live doing the BUSH tour. It was the funniest thing I have EVER seen, he made some really bad jokes about his cabinet and his upbringing with the other BUSHES and his time awol with David Roschild and his hand job technique. Apres the hilarity we went to the Dream hotel to have cocktails in the penthouse bar. THe best view a girl could ask for. I was sat looking down across Time Square with an Apple-tini in my hand...proper Metropolitan! Sleep ensued... AND JET LAG
Day THREE....
Went up to Central Park while Lisa went to the doctors. I walked around Central park taking selfportraits, after a walk across Broadway up town to Fairway market. Got back on the NY Sight seeing UP-town bus toward Harlem and West side, Angelina Jolie was filming for her new flik Salt, so we didnt go up that far through Harlem. As part of our $49 we got tickets to The New York City Museum, which for your reference is the WORST museum we have ever been in! Lunch was made and eaten opposite the Jackie O reservoir in Central Park, (ham/philly sarnies watching the super fit run around the water) we walked down to the subway to catch the Circle line Boat at 4pm. The boat kicked off with this loony guy and his tall tails of NYC. Went up passed the Statue of Liberty, around the river up to Manhatton bridge and up to the UN building. It is fair to say I have seen most of NYC in the last three days...bring on tomorrow and the Rockerfeller centre. Dinner was sharing Fahjitas in Planet Hollywood - sorry guys not only was it WHEN IN ROME, it was WHEN YOU HAVE $10 off voucher!
DAY FOUR
The busiest of all days. I woke up at 8 am and LIsa and I went to the gym, I have to say that I am so much more unfit that I wanted or my knees were prepared for...but hey! I did it! We left the house and decided to walk around to the Brooklyn bridge to soak up the culture. We walked to Chinatown and little Italy, looking around the lower east side. We literally walked around for three hours taking in the sites and trying to absorb the atmosphere. We stopped off in E Houston street for my first of many coffees and then dragged our butts to Bleeker street to meet Rachel, Rebecca, David and Marge at this little Dinner called Delicattessan. I ate the most amazing grilled veg pitta with humous. Leanne you would have LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! We then added on the best bits of the NYC trip into the afternoon. We took the subway to central terminal (station) took photos of the magnificent place and then wandered up to Rockerfeller center. We took the tour and went up to the 70th floor mezzanine and took silly pics us seeing statue of Liberty. The view was amazing, I was so in awe of the city. We pottered around to the Moma museum as it was free Friday eve, but the place was packed so we just go the jist. Our next trip was along to the FINAL night bus tour on our agenda. Lisa and I took in the sights with this little Brooklyn man who clearly knew what he was talking about. We went over the manhatton bridge at night and watched the sun set around the chrysler building. The whole scene was awesome. We had icecream in DUMBO such a freezing idea, my lips went numb, but it was worth it. Our evening finished in the brightly lit Times square. Sleep ensued. DAY FIVE AM Got on the Subway at 10.15 to get the megabus from Penn st Station. I got off the subway and tried to navigate myself up to what I thought was the bus terminal...turns out it wasnt where I thought it was! lol...I asked the lady at customer service and she told me there wasnt a bus terminal and all the buses went from outside the station...SOMEWHERE! She then said try 31st and 8th...thank god there was a megabus right there. For anyone that wants to got to Washington/Boston for cheap get the megabus...Seriously, the bus was in great condition with really clean seats and a new bus! 4hrs later...I was in Boston!- comments
