Week two of my trip to WA came round too soon.
The start of the week was pretty relaxed. The odd run, swim, walk on the beach, dinner out somewhere.
On Wednesday 22nd we set off South in the direction of Margert River. The mini southern road trip began!
Our first stop down the coast was at Busselton. Here we parked up and went for a swim in the very calm waters around Busselton Jetty. It was a beautiful day and the beach was pretty busy but we managed to find a quiet spot the other side of the jetty to coold off and work up a bit of an appertite for lunch. After stopping for a bite to eat, it was back to the car to dry off a touch and continue on our way.
A short hop down the road we got to Dunsborough. A lovely little town. We had a bit of a wander road, looking in shops and galleries before heading to the beach. It was practically empty, we had a quick paddle and set off up the coast to Eagle Bay and Bunker Bay. The water was beautifully clear and almost no-one around. A swim, some fun and photos as the sun started to get low in the sky. I don't think I have ever seen water so clear or a beaches so beautiful. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day. We headed back to Dunsborough to pick up some bits and pieces of food and drink then set off to Yallingup where we were to camp overnight.
Once we checked in at the Yallingup Beach Holiday Park, we set up our tent, table and chairs and went and got ready for dinner and a rather lovely little pub. Once back at the camp site we set up to relax and look at the photo's Brett had taken during the day. He is one very talent man and there were some wonderful images.
Its incredible actually how different the sky looks when you're out in the country. The stars were amazing, covering the sky and I could see them out the front of the tent as I went t sleep.
An early wake up with the dawn and we packed up the tent and car to head for Breakfast. With an hour to waste the beach was our first stop. Acouple of minutes down the road and we were at a stunning little cove. It was the most perfect way to wake up. The water was crystal clear and I went for a wander over the rock pools while the photographer was taking photos of the birds and scenery. We had a good swim out into a calm, glass like sea, climbing up rocks and enjoying the freshness of an early morning swim. After an hour or so we headed back to the car and proceeded to the Goanna Cafe & Gallery.
The day continued to get better. Breakfast was incredible and I am fairly sure it lasted me most of the day with the odd snack here and there. The cafe was in a wonderful little spot, calm and the sun was shining. After a look round the gallery we set off in the direction of Margaret River... a jaunt through wine country. we stopped off briefly in Gracetown before arriving in Margaret River at around 1pm. We had a wander round the shops and some sneaky free samples of fudge at the Fudge Factory.
Still full from the best breakfast ever, we made our way out to Prevelly and the Margaret River Mouth. Here we soaked up a little sun, taking photos in the long grasses and admiring the stunning scenery. I made a sand angel. It had to be done. A patch of unspoilt sand in the middle of the grasses..... it made up for the lack of snow angels over the Christmas period! :)
After getting the worst of the sand off we set off home stopping off at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory on the way.
We got back early evening and watch the sun go down over the sea at Halls Head. My last WA sunset over the sea..... for now atleast. It was the most fantastic few days with great company, lots of giggles and unforgettable places. WA has definately stollen my heart.
My last day has been spent exploring the area around Perth. We headed to Fremantle for the day and looked round Fremantle markets, explored the side roads and then I spent some time in a bookshop/coffee shop. Fab place and I managed to find a keep sake from WA at a little Boutique over the road.
A late lunch was had at the Little Creatures Brewery, over looking Fremantle Harbour. Great food and good cider.
We then set off in the direction of Perth, stopping off at Cottesloe Beach for my last swim in WA before heading back to Brisbane. It was a great way to finish and cool down before going to the Moonlight cinema in Kings Park. The stars were out and shining and we managed to get a spot right in the middle. The film finished with plenty of time to wander back to the car and head to the airport.
I didn't think I would find it so hard to leave somewhere other than the UK but this felt harder. After saying my goodbyes I am waiting for the gate to open and hop on the 00:35 plane to Brissie.......
It has always amazed me how much of an effect people and places can have on you and what your future decisions could be, even if just in the back of your head....... I miss it already
