Steve: So we flew with 'Laos Airlines' from Hanoi, Vietnam to Vientiane (the capital of Laos). The flight was so quick - took about an hour and we got free food and beer!
There was not much to see in Vientiane but we went to this cool rooftop bar in the evening with the Swedish guys and our German friend. You could see Thailand because it was on the other side of the river.
Next we went to Vang Vieng which is famous for tubing (think of a lazy river but with loads of bars/music). Unfortunately for us, the government shut down tubing a couple of months ago :(
We stayed in these cool bungalows made out of wood and we went tubing down the river anyway which was pretty cool.
Liz: I LEARNT TO RIDE A MOTORBIKE!!!!! Controlling the speed wasn't that hard but steering took a lot of getting used to. The first corner I turned I ended up on the other side of the road and facing oncoming traffic!! We had to ride across this rickety old wooden suspension bridge and I almost drove into a river. Then a tiny puppy decided to run out in front of me and i almost ran it over!!! Luckily I survived and we ended up drving to this lagoon in the middle of these incredible mountains where the water was really blue and cloudy. We jumped in off rope swings and stuff and then rode home! I can't believe I didn't crash. I don't want to tempt fate so I don't think i'll ever do it again!!
Steve: We went to this blue lagoon place which was this big tropical river where we jumped off swings and stuff. We went out for Cat's birthday which was so so funny. We started off in an Aussie bar where it was buy 2 drinks, get 2 drinks free...then we went to an Irish bar and then ended up in this crazy club. We had to walk across this big gravelly open space to get there and someone told Liz that we had crossed the border into Thailand hahaha (..we hadn't).
After a really drunken night, we had to get a 7 hour bus journey to Luang Prabang. We did a bike tour, went to a night market, went to this amazing waterfall and went 'bowling'. For some reason, bowling alleys are allowed open until 3am whereas clubs have to close around 11pm so bowling was this place's nightlife. It was actually really funny (and I won!).
We spent the next 2 days on a boat travelling down the river to Thailand which was quite longggg.
We really liked Laos, they had Beerlaos (their national beer), Laos Laos (their national shot) and you could eat water buffalo which was delicious!
That's 'Laos' for now.....
