Hi everyone!
Anna and I have just arrived back ‘home’ to Melb after an awesome long weekend away, camping along The Great Ocean Road. It was a trip full of sunshine, surfers, wildlife (I was LOVING it), Goon and Bunyips!
We set off on Thursday night in an 8 seater ppl carrier and rocked our way West to Geelong, a nice seaside place. Had a good night on the town there and were up early on the road again towards surfers shopping heaven Torquay, for a bit until moving onwards along the Great Ocean Rd. It really is one of the most scenic routes ever – we even saw little koalas in Eucalyptus trees SOOOO cute!
Our first stop was well, in the bush, in the middle of the Aussie Bush really…not sure of the name of the place lol. It was the Rip Curl Surfing Championship so everywhere else was booked up. The journey up to the ‘campsite’ was hilarious. Very dusty and bumpy and the whole ordeal had a very ‘teen horror movie’ feel to it: We got lost, heatedly debated whether to turn right/left, had crazy truck drivers crash past us, passed a waterfall where someone had actually been reported missing recently (or maybe that was Liam having us on : s ) and exchanged stories of the man-eating Aussie Bunyip – you know how it goes. After finally finding ground possible to camp on we set up our 6 man tent (for the 8 of us) under the scary watch of this weirdo family on
the opposite site of the flat patch which just added to the almost stereotypical beginning of the horror films we’d all been joking about on the way to the campsite.
We set off again to see the ‘Round the Twist’ Lighthouse next, all humming, “Have you ever, ever felt like this?!” and attempting to rap the rest. I kept on thinking about the episode when all the seagulls pooed everyone’s heads lol. Was very cool to see such a childhood memory in reality : )
Got some Goon and goodies in for the night and headed back to spooksville bushland where we were greeted by a friendly scorpion outside our tent, good job Liz’s keen eyes spotted him otherwise one of us may have come a cropper! Despite the glorious weather we’d had that day it was frozzin a la nuit and darkness fell uber quickly so that we were in complete and utter pitch black with only the bunyip calls to be heard hehe.
Next morn there were a few grumpy faces due to lack of sleep (the COLD, snoring, random kicks to head) but a nice brekkie in the cute seaside town of Lorne sorted us out. We headed on to see the wonder of The 12 Apostles, these very picturesque rock formations just after Port Campbell, although there are only 9 remaining cos the sea has eroded the others away.
And well, the rest of the trip was just brill. Went on a little bushwalk to a dried up waterfall where a random kangaroo bounced past us, saw lots of brightly coloured parrots much to my delight, chilled on the beach watching the pro surfers before the competition, had crisp butties and goon beneath the stars, watched the sun go down, moon come up and then sun come up again. Was just idyllic with perfect company! I tell ye all now, we are both very sad to be back in the smoke and going back to work tomorrow.
Oh and how can I forget?! Anna had a little trip to the hospital this eve…not sure if she’s trodden on something that is now stuck in her foot of a nasty little imp of a spider has bitten her but her foot has ballooned and she’s been walking like an invalid since yesterday, the poor wee lamb. Anyhoo, she now has painkillers and is feeling better : ) but has to go back tomorrow to have her X-rays looked at. Fingers crossed it’s nowt seriai.
Soz this is long one but there was lots to say!
Hope you’re all enjoying English Spring time, lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
