Our overnight accomodation at Kalbarri with Pelican feet didn't really make sense, but i think one day it might. The group shared a room those who were not jumping off at Kalbarri that is. One guy slep with his crisps next to his head. I awoke to Bryans phone going its '7'20 its time to get up' repeating many times and to a croaky Bryan shouting 'what time is it again?!'. The group 'core' was that os Scottish Bryan, Kai, Therese, Irish and Victor Belgium. The bus we had named was Carry.
Once on the bus again the sun was low over Kalbarri and we could see it in the light now. We drove through Kalbarri national park along a soft deep red sand road with bush land either side. Out of the bus the environment was serene and a very unusual environment, large expanses of bush with red earth sand tracks to hidden ravines and rocky outcrops.... and the sound of absolutely nothing. We walked to the loop and natures window a huge red stacked rock strats one on top of another weathered, overlooking a deep gorge with the sun glimmering on the gorge bed's river. The z bend river here was a beautiful serene area set against sand and huge red rocks chiseled by the river.
Next we drove miles to Hamelin pool after a breif stop at a roadhouse. Here was part of the Shark Baty World Heritage site and was home to the oldest and wisest things on Earth the Stromatolites. From here we drove another long distance to Shell Beach. A beach made entirely of little shells. We wrote Easy rider in the sea with handfulls of tiny shells for a photo oppurtunity and some took a swim. We then drove for another few hours to our overnight stop which was in Denham. The hostel was small and quaint across the road was the sea, but it was dark. Whilst kneeling in the luggage trailer rummaging in my backpack for a clean t-shirt with my bum hanging out of my jeans-as ususual these days- mosquitoes had a field day!
I have seen so much these past couple of days and have driven so many miles its hard to keep track of the time and day.
