Day ONE
Day one of the big Western Coast trip. After finishing work yesterday at HBF and running like alunatic to the post office before it closed i popped out for a quiet drink with Lindsay from DOME and some of the Spinner's Backpacker crew. It turned out to be a few of us and i was glad to be on the easyrider bus at 7:15am and having the satisfaction of making it!
So today we drive from Perth to Kalbarri which will be our overnight stop. Teh bus was on it's maiden voyage, and was named Carrie somewhere between Dongara and Jurien Bay's Woolworths. In less than 2 hours from Perth rolling bushland prevailed and it was relaxing to watch kilometer after kilometer of countryside rolling past with the bright blue Western Australia sky above.
Our first stopp was the Pinnacles Desert near Cervantes, which reminded me rather of a landscape out of Starwars. Great huge sand turrets sticking out of the desert standing eeriely against a desert surrounded by green woodlands and the sparly sea in te distance. The Pinnacle desert was situated ina national park and was a natural phenomenom caused by ariel erosional processes over many years. They are made up of broken sea shells and epoch marine life. Ava, a German girl needed to be dropped off we headed to a town called Dongara where we picked up some luncheon to eat at our nest stop Dynamite bay which was around 2 hours from the Pinnacles. In between this the bus bonded by introducing ourselves and naming an embarassing experience etc etc. Our driver was Benno and we had a trainee driver Dave, who was itching to get behind the wheel! I sat at the back of the bus, which later on this trip became the party sector!!
At Dynamite bay the weather had bcome much more sunny in contrast to the chill of Perth. After lunch and the mock Welsh and Scottish couple-Bryan and Kai having a quick swim we drove a further 2 hours up to our overnight stop at Kalbarri. Just before driving into here in the darkness we could make out lake or river and the brightest stars i think i may have ever seen. Before the light had completely extinguished the sun set over the clear blue sky and gave way to purple, red and pink hues. There is no light pollution in this national park town. Everything was extremely quiet too.
I noticed driving through all this space true Australia, red earths, green fields and bush with Boag trees dotted around. This eveing after checking in and folowing te Pelican feet to our room, we went out to a restaurant caklled Finlays set around teh fishing theme. Alfesco dining, with upturned boats for shelter over tables dotted in the sand. We had the biggest dinner of different fish I have had in along while. And the group began to bond a little more over Bryan being unable to peel prawns.
