DAY THREE-'Ocean Pork'
Rising early in our hostel which consisted of a holiday studio with 2 rooms of 4 beds- oooo hgow so fancy!- we all grabbed our breakfast from Denham's abundance of shops before leaving for Monkey Mia (My-ah) to the see the dolphins there. It is 850km away from Perth located on a penisula and features a dolphin interaction zone opened in the 1980s. The are was declared part of the Shark Bay Heritage Site in 2001. Numerous bottle nosed dolphins interact with humans here because an old lady started feeding them back in 1964.....
Our bus Carry (as there are fines for referring to it as a bus and other things) creating an alcohol kitty for us. There is so much to see on the West Coast and its great to be sat on a bus with great people, great music and the miles and miles of the West Coast sailing by out the window. All this travelling can be quite exhausting thoughand often never a quiet moment can be had to yourself.
I wasn't too interested in the dolphins at Monkey Mia, the coolest thing here was the huuuuge pelicans here, as seen in the photo! Its a bit touristy here, with the masses squished along the shoreline watching the volunteers dangle fishes for dolphin food. But it is a relaxing place, warmish situated in the middle of miles of breath taking shoreline and twinkly seas.
Leaving to pick up som eotheres- as the bus offers as hop on hop off- we drove to Ocean Pork. Turning off the road down a unsealed dirt road to a small aquarium safari park centre where a really informative guy showed us around the 'park' saying Beautiful in pauses. Telling us about the amazing fish located in shark bay and to learn about the amazing environment. They had some beautiful lemon sharks here, turtles and some other sharks. We then drove for 2 hours to Carnavon bonding at the back of the bus with Victor, Therese, Kai and Bryan. At Carnarvon we brought supplies for our stay in Coral Bay as it is quite expensive there and also brought some alcohol with the bus kitty from all the fines from leaveing the door open and calling it a bus. After a short stop at the medical centre beacue of Bryan's huge huge insect arm, we carried on for another 2 hours in the darknedd to Coral Bay having a little party on the way sloshing drink all around the back of the bus-whoops. With the esky at the back-that i was in charge of and distributing ice to peoples glasses i took the role of bus stewardess. We got to Coral Bay quite late and checke dinto our new hostel. Quick shower and then a barbie cooked up by Benno. Kangaroo...beautiful!
