Hi everyone!
We havent done a blog post for a few days so theres quite a lot to catch up with...this will test our memories!!
The night our in Lapa that we were talking about on our last blog was amazing! We had so much fun. The ambience on the streets of Lapa is really something special, its so lively! This is where we're staying for Carnival so it should be fun!! There were mini parties going down in the street, so it was good even if you couldnt get into a club! We went for some dinner before, where Alex struggled telling the waiter that she didnt want cheese, however he did not understand so she couldnt eat most of it because the poor man looked lost, she didnt want to argue!! Also, he gave us cocktails instead of the beers we asked for...crazy man! Or maybe cos were rubbish at Portuguese, but were slowly getting there with a few phrases!! :) After dinner we went to a club, which was free entry for girls which was a bit of a bargain! There was also 2 beers for 3 reais which is about a pound! Another bargain! As you may have guessed, weve become a bit of beer drinkers...good news dads!! The men are quite pesty in clubs, but not as bad as you might think...they are pretty nice though, so if you tell them to go away they will! Lol. They have a dodgy way to do things though, they give you a card at the beginning, then the barmen cross off what you buy and then you pay at the end. Mentalists..
The past few days, weve had really good weather. Its been about 37 degrees each day, so bit by bit, were getting some colour! Our favourite beach so far is Ipanema, theres a little bit of a breeze too so its not too much heat to deal with. There are so many people trying to sell you things on the beach though, but we kinda feel sorry for them a little bit, as they drag big boxes around in the heat, which is sad. Oh well!! We watched the sunset on Ipanema from some rocks at the side, which is a must see!
Last night, a few more English speaking people arrived at the hostel so its not been that bad trying to make friends as everyone can understand us, and they seem quite nice! We went out in Ipanema again, to get some food with them, and ended up in this restaurant which was really scrummy!! There are a couple of Irish bars in Ipanema, which is quite good!! Maybe well venture there sometime again!!
Today we went to see Christ the Redeemer, which was pretty spectacular. We went up in a little train, which went through Tijuca forest, so the scenery was lovely!! The views from the top were so good. We didnt actually realise we were at the top, until we looked up and there was a massive statue of Christ! It was awesome! I think the statue is about 30m high..so was outstanding to see close up. The photos are all up on Facebook so check them out!!
Were going to go and cook some dinner now, so speak to you soon!!
