As the last entry said "early to bed so ready for some light exercise tomorrow" - better have 1 for the road then! 4 large Changs and a couple of JD's later we thought was ideal preparation - wrong. Up early, check out (sorry we have no vacancy for when you back - ah), on with the backpack (this seems heavier, might need to do some laundry) and then off to the truck. We leave Chiang Mai, 12 of us set off (4 Brits, 4 French, 2 Germans & 2 Slovakians) plus our guide, a Thai called Off (top bloke). Stop off en route at a local market to pick up 3 days of provisions and then to the jungle. First a leisurely Elephant ride followed by some lunch - life is good. Off then tells us we've a 3 hour uphill trek to the Lahu Tribe's village - ah a nice little stroll! Oh my Bhudda, it really was 3 hours and it really was uphill (and it really was bloody steep). Bill thought he was going to die and Lis only kept going by thinking "if he can do it then so can I" - life is not so good, why did we have 1 for the road? We finally made it, exhausted, we celebrated - with what? Yeah more Chang beer and life is better. Although we still have another 2 days in the jungle to come! So off to bed, our room for the night was a wooden hut where all 12 of us slept on the floor with just a mosie net for privacy (very cosy) and we get the snorer next to us - Bill now knows how Lis feels.
