So the time finally arrived for me to set off on my travels. I am joining up in Thailand with my Sister Kirsty and her friend Lauren, who have already been travelling around Asia for two months. My Sister's new(ish) boyfriend, Nick, flew out with me today as he is having a two week holiday with us in Thailand.
My Mum, Dad and one of my best friends Aimee came to see me off at the airport (and we polished off a Frankie and bennys breakfast). The first 7 hour Emirates flight to Dubai was great. I made the most of the complimentary wines, questioned Nick on his intentions with Kirsty (just kidding) and enjoyed watching Home Alone. We had a quick turnaround at Dubai, finding time for a McDonald's to soak up the wine, then myself and Nick had seperate connecting flights going to Bangkok so I went off on my own.
The second flight (6.5 hours) was really not so great. Although it was an Emirates Airbus with two floors, I managed to sit next to the only newborn baby. I spent the whole flight either listening to him scream, or checking that his mum was ok because she was so stressed with the baby that she was crying too! It's safe to say I never got any sleep and to top it off I was then getting travel sick (or this could have been the wines)...
I finally arrived in Bangkok and was greeted by Kirsty at arrivals. Two months is the longest we have actually ever been apart, so we had the longest hug and were both crying. Once we pulled ourselves together and found Nick, we headed to our hostel. Our taxi narrowly escaped two car crashes, and when we finally arrived safely, we found Lauren and settled in our rooms. I am in a 6 bed female dorm with Lauren and a couple of others. The girls seem really nice and it's clean and comfortable so i was more than happy.
After a brief wander out to a noodle bar and walk down Khao San road, I decided that being awake for 28 hours was enough and headed to bed. Hopefully the jet lag will lay off a bit tomorrow and we can head to see some temples around Bangkok.
