Hola Amigos,
Well we both made it safely to Buenos Aires. I clearly inadvertently upset the lady at the check in desk as she sat me between 2 smelly old men!! I couldn´t go to sleep because I was convinced i´d fall asleep on one of their shoulders - nightmare. I was kind of hoping that my flight would be delayed and Claire´s would be early which would give me less waiting time at Buenos Aires but what do you reckon happened?? Yep - mine landed early and Claire´s was delayed although only by 40 minutes or so. Anyway, I ended up waiting over 6 hours. Lots of cups of tea and half a John Grisham book later - she arrived.
We were both shattered but forced ourselves to leave our stuff at the hostel and go for a wander. Buenos Aires is a really nice city and also very hot as it{s summer and temperatures can hit 40 degrees here. Not quite that hot yet but definitely factor 30 weather! We went to San Telmo which is a district of Buenos Aires (BA by the way is huge!) There was a market on which had lots of cool stuff. Literally 5 minutes after I said to Claire, "don´t let me spend much money as I still have 2 months left".. I had bought a ring and skirt/top thing but both were very beautiful and very cheap. The skirt/top thing we found at a designers fair and all the designers are there so it´s not like i´m going so see it in Topshop when I get back!!
We had lunch and a beer overlooking the square with a couple doing the Tango in the background. Very Argentina. We were tucked up in bed by 8pm but to be fair, neither of us had slept for almost 48 hours. Today, we moved hostels to another part of Buenos Aires which looks really nice. Lots of parks and leafy streets, MILLIONS of restaurants and lots of shops so I think we{ll probably like it here. Claire and I are going to be such good travelling companions as we both like to plan our days around food and here you can get so much cheap food. A big steak buffet is 2 pounds or something ridiculous.
If we are feeling brave enough, we MIGHT go for a Tango lesson while we´re here. Would seem rude not to. Anyway, on the whole, we love Buenos Aires so far and are already thinking maybe we should stay longer than we planned. It is so, so cheap, probably cheaper than Peru unbelievably. It´s very European and feels like we´re in Paris or maybe somwhere in Italy. We´re both on the hunt for an Argentinian Polo player to bring back to England from the local English speaking Hall. (Joking dad!!)
Well..this internet connection is crazy slow so will sign off but update you all soon.
Miss you all
xx
