Hey everyone,
Hope you are all OK, Shell, glad you made it home safely but we miss you!!!
Well, after I lost wrote, we pretty much spent the time chilling in Buenos Aires. It´s such an easy place to chill out,the shops are great, the párks and things are lovely, the food and wine are very good and it is all so cheap!!! Wednesday we did some sightseeing. Mainly things that i´d done before so I won´t go on about them but went into the city centre, did the Casa Rosada again and also went back to La Bocca which I love!!
Wednesday night, we went to a Sushi restaurant on the street we were staying on. I´ve never really been to a Sushi restaurant before but Becky loves it so we decided to give it a go. It was actually really good. I was mortified when I saw how small everything was but its amazing how quickly it fills you up!! Will definitely be havig Sushi again.
Thursday we went to Colonia in Uruguay for the day. We got the boat across which took 3 hours and spent a few hours there. The shopping in Colonia is good so we did some shopping and then went for a very long lunch with wine. After that it was time to get the boat back. We had one of our best days ever but it was kind of like nipping to Wales for lunch!!! :-)
Thursday night when we got back, we went for a nice meal and then drinks as it was Shells last night. Friday, we wanted a nice chiling day so we went for breakfast and then Shell did some last minute shopping. Then we had our nails done at the really posh salon which i´d been to before which was lovely. Very relaxing. There was just enough time for more food and a bottle of champagne (a bottle of champagne costs about 3 pounds!!!) and then take Shell to the airport. Was really sad seeing her go but can´t believe that will be me soon. That night we had Mexican for dinner.
Saturday morning, I had to be up at 6am as we were being picked up for the football at 7!!! Basically, most Portenos (people from Buenos Aires) travel to Mar del Plata in Jan which is on the Argentinian coast. It is their summer holidays so although La Bocca and River Plate both play in Buenos Aires, they decided to play the match in Mar del Plata. This meant a 5 hour bus journey. We stopped at 11:30 for breakfast which I was quite excited about.Well, lunch was a huge bbq by the side of the motorway with loads of steak etc. Very bizarre and even I was struggling to eat fatty steak at that time o the morning. Especially as the smoke from the bbq was mixing with the car fumes from the word. Definitely not my favourite meal in Argentina. When we arrived,we had free time to hit the beach or the town as kick off was not until 10pm.
We got to the stadium at 8:30 and I thought we were going to be really bored getting there that early but the stadium was already 3/4 full.We were sitting in the River Plate end. The crowd were going crazy and chanting and singing already and we even managed to pick up a couple. Anyway, the teams came on at 10 to a crazy reception.Everyone was going wild. Then after they´d chosen ends, there was a 5 minute firework display right above us. The atmosphere was amazing. First half was pretty boring but both teams played loads better in the 2nd half and in the end "we" won 2-0. The crowd reaction was amazing. Even the Bocca fans were still singing and chanting at 2-0 down with 2 mins to go and no-one left the stadium before the final whistle!
We then began the long journey home and arrived back at the hostel at 7:30am! Nice!!! Sunday just chilled around San Telmo and went to the market and then last night, caught an overnight bus here to Mendoza which is in central Argentina close to Chile. It is wine region and surrounded by the Andes Mountains. Reallyt beautiful. Our hostel has a pool which is good and this place is even cheaper than Buenos Aires if that´s possible. This afternoon, we´ve been on a wine tour which was really cool. Been to 2 different vineyards and also an olive oil making place. Was really good and of course the free samples are always nice.
Tonight, we are going to a restaurant in Mendoza which is apparently the 7th best in the world. We are so excited. I know it seems all I do is talk about food but honesty, we are doing other things too! :-)
Right, i´m off to get ready for my posh meal but i´ll let you know how it is.
Speak soon
Lisa
