We have arrived in Bangkok - will update once we have something to write about! Didn't end up doing much that day but later on in the evening we met up with Lisa's friend Carrie, and her friends Miriam & Jo who are also on holiday in Thailand at the moment.

We went to see some of the tourist sights - the Big Buddha and the Grand Palace. The Palace is a huge complex of buildings, the centrepiece is the Royal Chapel of the Emerald Buddha. They change his clothing depending on the season and he already has his 'cold clothes' on, even though it was sweltering! Later we had a wander down the Khao San Road, the main backpacker place in Bangkok full of shops, bars and restaurants.

We went to the huge Reclining Buddha, the largest reclining Buddha statue in the world! We also saw the Golden Buddha, the largest solid gold Buddha at 3.4m tall. We were then 'buddha'ed out so we walked to Jim Thompson's House. It was very hot again and we got a bit lost on the way, so we had a cool down in the air conditioned restaurant when we arrived. Jim Thompson was an architect who was stationed in Bangkok in World War II. He is famous for reviving the thai silk industry. He is renowned for his house, which is constructed from six teak buildings in traditional thai architecture. There are also big gardens which he described as 'his jungle'. He went missing in 1967 and has never been found. In the evening we went on a longtail boat trip on the river.
