Tues 14 Nov
After immigration procedures we were let out of China and into Hong Kong. We went to a local cafe for lunch and had a wander around the Temple Street market. Everything on the market is so cheap but the expensive food and drink make up for it! In the evening we went for the final group meal at an outside restaurant on Temple Street then some of us headed to the Lan Kwai Fong area for a few more drinks. Hong Kong is quite different to mainland China - it is very business orientated and a lot more westernised, the British influence can still be seen.
Wed 15 Nov
We went on the newly opened cable car ride to Ngong Ping village on Lantau Island. Unfortunately it was very cloudy so the views weren't as good as they could have been, and Ngong Ping village is a bit like a monks theme park! It is all based around the Po Lin monastery and a huge bronze Buddha statue. The weather was awful and we got absolutely soaked.
Thurs 16 Nov
We followed a walk from a tourist leaflet which led us through lots of different markets - clothes, birds, goldfish, flowers but we didn't buy any. We took the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak where there are fantastic views of the Hong Kong skyline. We walked around the peak trail then got the Star Ferry back to the Kowloon peninsula to see the sound and light show. This is ten minutes of lasers and lights across the buildings on both sides of the harbour.
Fri 17 Nov
We set off on our travels again, this time by plane rather than train though - hooray!
