Arrived at Calcutta at 8.30am after our final indian train journey. We went to the Kali temple at Kalighat but the queues were massive so we didn't go in. A few people offered to take us to the front of the queue as 'VIPs'but we read that they can then demand loads of money so we said no. We walked for miles to find some horticultural gardens but they were closed when we got there. Lots of things were closed due to local festivals. In the evening we met the rest of the group for our final meal together. It was a very nice restaurant (apart from a snorting waiter!). Calcutta seemed a lot more civilised than other indian cities.....it even had proper pavements and no livestock wandering the streets.

Lisa spent the day in bed (suffering from 'Delhi belly'), Ed went off with Will & Jane to Park Street cemetery. They then tried to get into the Victoria Memorial and St Paul's Cathedral but most things were closed as it was Sunday. In the evening we went to a sound and light show at the Victoria Memorial which was pretty impressive.
Mon 23 Oct
Everything was closed again - too many holidays and festivals! We walked to Mother Theresa's Missionary & Motherhouse where she lived in Calcutta. There was an interesting exhibition about her and the work she did. We also saw her tomb and the room that she lived in. We had a final final meal with the remaining people from the group then had a few drinks afterwards with Karmapriya (group leader).
Tues 24 Oct
We actually managed to get to the Victoria Memorial today but unfortunately only had time to walk around the gardens. The buildings were grand colonial style. We then made our way to the airport for the flight from Calcutta to Mumbai (Bombay).
