Leon, Nicaragua
After Arriving back in San Pedro Sula (the hub of Honduras) we made our way to the capital Tegucigalpa, where we stayed the night downtown at the Hotel Iberia. An early start the next day. We started out comfortably in a nice bus (sorta like greyhound) and then we followed that with 3 hardcore chicken busses (school buses, thankfully, No actual chickens). The last route, journeying between the ditch, the main road under construction, and everything in between. It was bumby, it was rough, the bus broke down, it was exhilarating. As you can tell, obviously sitll in the beginning of my trip, and enjoying the novelty of such things... we will see how long that last. After surviving my Central American initiation we arrived in Leon, Nicaragua in the evening.
What a wonderful town. I have been here four nights now, and definetly staying a couple more. the people are friendly, and they hardly speak English. the perfect place to learn some spanish. as we are in the dry season, it is HOT. One of the best things I discovered yesterday, the Museum is spectacular. definetly worth a visit. It houses great painting from the early 1600s to the present day. A wonderful ensemble of Latin Amercain Art. Some of the very best. Tomorrow will be visiting the beach, located 20km south of town, but an hour long chicken bus ride. Hopefully the bus will not break down!
