Hola from Quito,
just arrived yesterday morning from Mancora, Peru. Stayed at the Loki del Mar. More than likely the last time I will ever saty at a loki hostal. Not saying it was bad, just ins't for me. We crossed the Tumbes border, the day before, after hearing horrors about it, heard it was the worst border in South America. I was surprised to see how quick and easy it was, partly due to the fact that the bus agency we went through handled everything, from cabs to bags. If you are in need of a bus to Quito from Mancora, the agency located to Loki direct left can't be beat, Try your luck at bargaining the price.
After arriving in Quito, we hit up the Secret Garden in the old town, after hearing such great things, we weren't surprised to be turned away as they were full. half a block away, the very cheap, yet rustic, Hostal Belmont had plenty of room. A friendly family run Hostal, the owner is very nice and happy to help out whenever. After a much needed nap, we explored the Old City, and soon made our way to Mitad del Mundo, or the equator as some might call it. Two bus rides(take the blue or yellow metrobus to the last station, Ofelia, from there hop on the clearly marked Mital del mundo and stay until the end of the line) away, you find yourself in a large parque dedicated to Ecuadors claim to fame. 2 dollar entry fee, and an additional 3 to climb the tower, offer nice views of a brightly orange line that stretches from E to O.
And Easter sunday is here, we had some fried chicken, and what else could be better? Dying bulls!!! Hooray. We're lucky enough to be staying directly next to the bull ring, and as it is easter week, their is a bull fight going on. even better, we got an eagle eye view of the entire spectacle from the hostals terrace, no 15 dollar admission for us, thank you. So after seeing 3 bulls get killed, I left during the 4th round. It was interesting to say the least.
You might be wondering what i have done between now and the last entry, well alot, and i find it quite tiring to try to rack my brain for the last like 4 weeks, so let's just say Peru, machu picchu all that stuff, all good.
I'll post some pics of machu picchu and very soon.
Ciao
