Hello everyone!
We've now been in Australia for 2 weeks and are enjoying every minute of it! On our way downunder we made a stop at Kuala Lumpur for the second time. There we killed about 6hours by playing Nintendo Wii, while pretending that Line wanted to buy a new mobile phone, just to have an excuse to stay there longer. When we started to be a tad imbarrased we carried on for an hour more. When the staff really started to look at us in hatred, we had to surrender and walk out of there... :)
Already at the flight over to Sydney things started to look brighter. We felt better both fysically and mentally. ;) As much as we LOVE to explore different cultures and all that, we are still in love with our own way of lifestyle, and we felt that Australia would match the norwegian way of living. And we were right! Just not having to be alert at all time by people trying to scam us was a relief. We made our way from the airport to Wake up, our hostel, and we are not joking when we felt like we were walking in to Hilton Plaza!! It was clean, big, funky, colourful, CLEAN, sexy, friendly, did we say clean?, and OURS!!!! for three nights at least....NOT.... Because we had to move our reservations in sydney because of all the bull in Bali, Kilroy booked three new nights for us at Wake Up. But somehow they booked the first night on the night we left Bali, and we really don't feel it was our fault that we were still in the air when Wake Up stood ready to welcome us.. Anyway it got sorted out (on OUR expence of course) and we went straight to bed. Suffering from the illness of jetlag, not fatale though....(three hours difference!!!!! oooh....:O).
We arrived Sydney on Saturday the 7th of March, and if there is one thing we are good at, it's timing! MARDI GRAS, GAY mardi gras FESTIVAL!!! weeeeoWEEEOOOO WIIIII!!!!! We ran out and bought boa's, trying to fit in at least 1%. Why we even bothered?? We don't really know... :O
There was NO way we could match the costumes of the people in the streets anyway. We hung out with Paul, a french guy we shared dorm room with, and his friends. We saw some of the parade, but because of the crowd, we couldn't get good photos. Sunday - we recovered from Mardi Gras.
Monday we joined Wake Up's guide Joe for a free sightseeing walk around the city. Joe is a good one ;) The highlight of the trip was of course eating lunch infront of the Opera house! On the walk we met some nice Norwegian girls that we ended up spending a lot of time with. After the tour we all got a free beer down in Side Bar(in the basement of the hostel). This was not at all the reason why we joined the sightseeing tour...seriously!! :D It turned out to be a good night :)
Tuesday - recovery, and Mc.Donalds was not NOT included....:D
Wednesday we woke up at 6am, felt a bit bored and since we had nothing better to do, we desided that it would be a good day to jump out of an airplane from 14000 feet. Only strapped between life and death with four henges, weighing about 1kilo in total...totally makes sence when you think about it..! And as we are BOTH sensable people, that's what we ended up doing ;) Line, who is struggeling with an extreme fear of hights, like the kind of fear where she even get dizzy just by standing on the sidewalk - looking down on the ground - this wasn't at ALL nervewrecking! For Turid it also felt like an everyday activity.. We were of course hoping that we would have some gorgeous Aussies strapped on our backs, but as you can see from the photos, that wasn't QUITE the case... :S
But HEY, it's what's on the INside that counts, or in this case the equipment... ;) The 15 minutes flight from the ground and up to 14'000feet was nervewracking on the verge of non realistic. When the crew started to get on their feet our legs shook like jelly and there was also a few swearwords that slipped off our tounges. The walk towards the back of the plane, which now was only a big hatch into the sky, felt like walking the green mile or something... As we stood there and just saw the people disappear with a "schwOOp" it felt surreal! Luckily we didn't have to do much, our Bruce's did all the work. The feeling of actually jumping out of the plane can not be described. But once we were falling 240km/h towards the ground it just felt like we were hanging above a HUUUGE hairdryer and we felt weightless. We had about 75 seconds of free fall, it felt like 5... Once the parachute opened The only thing we had to do, was enjoying the view, chatting with our partners and steer the parachute. It's not hard to steer, if you pull left, you go left etc... Once you're in for landing you rush towards the ground in high speed, with legs UP, and before you now it you're sitting safely on the grass, SURREEEEAL!!!! If you have a heart for it, you go up again, like Turid did, crazy ass! Line would like to say that it was her economy that was holding her back, but in reality the first jump took all her strenght and energy. We are both doing it again sometimes in the future, for sure!! We also have videos and photos for you back home to see when we get home.
The next day we went on a Happy Tour - tour to the Blue Mountains. Apparently they are called the Blue Mountains because they look blue when the fog covers them, according to our supercool guide Ross. Ross is just like the turtle in Finding Nemo, AWESOME dude!! So yeah, anyways, Blue Mountains... a LOT of walking up and down in stairs, but with a spectacular view, a lot of waterfalls and green vegetations. Oh... and we also saw some kangaroos, cool dude! ;) It was a fun, but exhausting day. We got to do a lot in Sydney, and now we were ready to travel up coast ;)
