BAN TAI - 1st -7th of February
Alright, so here we are again, finally doing some blogging, took us long enough.. so we headed out from koh samui, took a ferry over to koh pha ngnan, and we knew we were suppose to meet the guys we met in Bangkok, Sean had booked us a bungalow. We had no idea where we were going, so we took a taxi(minivan). We came to haad rin(with the ferry) and we were staying in Baan tai, 15 minutes drive from Haad rin. The roads between the two places, they are totally crazy, its bumpy and , well, it basically felt like a rollercoaster ride without seatbelts. But somehow, we survived and landed safely in Baan tai outside the 7/11. We met up with the others and headed towards Emerald Ocean, and to our bungalow. When we walked out of the room, we were literally at the beach! Quite alright by us. We paid 400baht a night, which is probably 40 kroners each. The atmosphere was amazing at Emeralds, the guys/ladies who worked there were all really welcoming and superfriendly. AND there he was… ROB! The first night we met, we met 6(ish) times. How can one explain the phenomenon that is Rob? He's a Scottish immigrant in Thailand, he went ashore and never came back. The last 6 months he's been sober 4(ish) times. He's liver still functions, but just barely. He does the Thailand stump better than any, and every story he tells, he tells them soooo well! if anything, blame Rob… if you loose your shoes, you blame it on Rob, if the sky is grey, you blame Rob. Once you've met Rob, you never go back to normal. So, anyways, Baan Tai, it was all chill. Lying at the beach, or sitting at the beachbar or buying toasties at 7/11. That's about all we did for 6 days straight.
HAAD RIN and KO TAO 7th -20th of February
We went back to haad rin(fullmoon party beach), where we met up with some Norwegian guys we met back home just before we left. They had two spare-beds for us, so we greatfully accepted that. Then we saw how many stairs we had to climb to get there, it felt like running a marathon every time. Our legs really felt it,…AND our ass! But, don't worry about it;)
Because it is the party beach, they like to play music(offcourse) but they like to play it sooo loud that its impossible to even hear your own thinking. We REALLY appreciated it at night, when we were trying to sleep, and the only thing you could hear was the beat from the beach, our whole bungalow was vibrating…LOVELY.
The group we met and spent our next one and a half - two weeks with, was Morten, Ruben, Ane, Ronny, Espen and Irene. We had loads of fun with them, playing pool, relaxing at the beach, going out for dinner and drinks in the evenings. At least the first couple of nights.. until Turid decided that it was her turn to get sick.. JIPPI!!! It started out with a sore throat and ear-ache.. And then, the day before the Full Moon party, the fever came, and it stayed for the next 4-5days! After 4days of sickness, and because the fever almost reached 40degrees we found a medical center in Bantai and Turid got to see the doctor. She took some blood-samples to check for dengue fever and got a bag of medicine. Then we headed back to the travel agency we visited and bought tickets from the day before. We were suppose to join the others with the boat to Ko Tao that same morning, but because of Turid's condition we had to stay behind. Luckily we got the boat tickets changed to later that day, and we headed to Ko Tao that same evening. Our hotelroom in Ko Tao was PURE luxury compared to our previous accommodations! Huge living room, a bedroom, a bathroom with a huge "walk in" shower!! Weee! ;)
Since we only booked the room for one night, we were suppose to let the hotel know the same day if we wanted to stay longer… But since we arrived so much later than planned, they had already booked the room to someone else the next day. OF COURSE! Just our kind of luck... So we just had to cross our fingers that they would find us a room the next day.. Luckily they did, and this one was right on the beach. Turid, sick as she was, had been told to stay inside and avoid the sun. But here she could stand on the balcony and scream to Line who was lying on the beach.:D The next couple of days was for Turid spent in the room watching many movies on the TV and for Line lying on the beach trying to reach a good tan;) In the evenings we met the rest of the crew to eat dinner and look around the area. The island was beautiful, clear water, lovely beaches and loads of good atmosphere and nice people all over. We were just enjoying the life there, every second of it! Too bad we only got 5nights on the Turtle Island(as it's called), we would have stayed much longer if it wasn't for our flight we had to reach in Kuala Lumpur the 22nd of February. We said goodbye to our Norwegian friends and headed towards Kuala Lumpur the 20th of February.. Little did we now of what we were going to go through the next day and a half :O….
With a HUUUGE optimistic and exited state of mind(as we constantly have of course) we took a taxi to the pier in Ko Tao. We were taking the nightboat all the way to the south of Thailand. We found our boat and saw the sleeping arrangement…. We literally wanted to cry out loud. The mattresses that we THOUGHT we were sleeping on, was for everyone else but us. We actually only got a straw-mats directly on a hard wooden floor….no pillows.. YEY! Also we were placed right in the opening, where everyone was coming into the boat. We saw a lot of depressed expressions in the faces of the people walking in the next hour before we took off. The boat contained two floor, each 1 meter high, so walking to the toilet(or the hole in the floor) was quite a tour. We had to crawl all the way to the opposite end of the boat and over all of the people lying on the mattresses(not jealous of them, of course.. :O).
After 9hours(!!!!!) spent on the boat, sleeping, turning over from side to side to avoid pain in the hips, we FINALLY reached our destination. The boattrip went surprisingly quick, and suddenly it was 5am in the morning, and we were sitting on a street corner, wondering what was happening next. After an hour and a half, all of the other people had left and we were sitting there all by ourselves… In the end we were driven to a bus station were we found the bus that we though was taking us all the way to Kuala Lumpur… But no….after about 6-7hours the bus stopped, and again, there we were…not knowing what was happening next.. We were standing there as huuuge question marks, saying Kuala Lumpur to everyone outside. Then came a couple of guys, "kuala Lumpur, this way..". One tuk-tuk later, we were sitting on a minibus. We were told that this bus would take us to a bigger bus, who was driving us all the way… After about 5-6hours, two security and passport-stops later we were in Malaysia, yeeeyy! We were thrown off the mini bus somewhere in Malaysia, and two hours later, at about 8.30 in the evening our bus with "stressless"-seats was on it's way to Kuala Lumpur. The bus was suppose to arrive in K L at about midnight.. 2AM, about 2 hours after schedule we were at our accommodation. Our time in K.L can be summed up like this: sleeping for 12hours, eating, looking around the area, back to our room, internet, beers, noodles, talking to people working and living there, Kentucky Fried Chicken 2o'clock in the morning, sleeping, packing, taxi, airport, BYE BYE Malaysia, Hello Bali!!
BALI, 22nd of February-3rd of March.
Then we were in Bali. Finally! Here they have two kinds of taxies. One "regular" taxi where you have to bargain for a good price, and then we have the "Blue Bird" taxies, the ones that use a taximeter. You can safely say we're sticking to the Blue Birds ;)
Here in Bali you take taxi everywhere, it's in fact mandatory to do so. Walking it's really overrated… hehe..
The first 4days we moved 3times. The first accommodation was to expensive and to far away from the "action" ;) The other one had the perfect location, but was too cheap, 70000rupiah, which is about 40kroners, and you really didn't get anything more than you paid for. After two long nights there we moved to where we are staying now. Each night we pay 150 000rupiah, about 90kroners, and we get a pool, better lighting, and shower PRESSURE! On the other one the shower was only dripping, so we were afraid to use shower gel, incase we couldn't get it off again...high five!
Well… what can we say about our activities here in Bali??.. Underwater-beer-drinking contest in the swimming pool, sun bathing, sun burning, dipping our bodies in the pool when we're too hot, eating, shopping, a couple of visits to the beach(which overfloats with garbage coming from the neighbor island), clubbing, meeting a LOT of Australians, sleeping, and so on. We are really living a dogs life, if that is a English expression.. hehe ;P
It's now the 27th of February and we have 4nights left before we travel over to Australia. We will probably spend them doing about the same things as before :D
We hope you are all doing well, and we send loads of well wishes and so on.. We COULD send you some sun and warm temperatures, but sadly we decided to keep it to ourselves.. :)
CIAO!! Will be continued… hopefully sooner than a month from now.
