THAILAND!
Today we had our first REAL day in the sun. We've laid between our pool and the beach (which is about 10metres apart) all day, LOVELY. Finally some color on our bodies…even though it's red, we're still extremely happy about it
We landed in Thailand on Wednesday the 28th of January, but before we start talking about that, we feel the need to tell you all something about our last days in Hong Kong As you can see in the pictures we poasted on the Hong Kong-album we had a little walk down at the pier of Hong Kong mainland. Didn't get too see much because of the fog, but it was still interesting to have a look around the area.
The next day we went over to Hong Kong Island to the look-out point Victoria Peek. The view there was amazing! Or at least we think it was….still too much fog, for us to decide.. The tram going up to the peek was quite nerve wracking at times, at least when the degree of the railway-angle was about 70.. Luckily we survived and got home to Peter and Aasny in time to go out for dinner with them. We had been invited along by their neighbor, PK and PK's sister, two Chinese women. We got to taste a lot of different Chinese spesials, some which tasted good, some interesting, and some that was NOT so good. All in all a very nice day and evening, with good company
On Monday the 26th we went to Ocean Park on Hong Kong Island. There we saw the pandas, which were SOOOOO adorable, almost fake-looking. Afterwards we wandered around the park, took quite a few roller-coasters and other adrenalin-giving rides. We had a blast! We also visited the aquarium, where we could see a lot of different fishes and sharks Before closing time we also went on a dolphin show where they had dolphins and sea lions performing for us. Didn't get to enjoy the show fully because of our EXTREME need to take pictures of their every move…
On the day before we were leaving for Bangkok, we took the time to relax and build up strength for the next day. We went for a power-walk around the area where we lived, Shatin. It felt quite good since we hadn't exercised for about 2-3months, and been eating more junkfood and candies on our trip than our conscience could handle In the evening we went down to Tsim Sha Tsui to witness the end of the 3day long celebration of the Chinese New Year. We saw a marvelous fire-work show, but it must have lasted for about 20minutes-a half hour, and we were bored after about 10minutes.. Been there, done that a month ago in Norway
hehe.. so we decided to go to an Irish Bar instead. There we had a couple of beers before we called it a night and went back home, eager and exited for the next day; our arrival in Thailand!!
The 28th of January we landed in Bangkok, fully knowing that from now on we were looking towards warm happy days, soaked with sun, beaches and cheap spending. Once we landed we found an ok looking guest house right away, in Khao San Road, the busiest backpacker-street, and that was a.o.k by us! We found ourselves hungry, as we seem to a lot, and went out for a beer and a snack. As expected, it was cheap, and one beer expanded, to a couple of more. As we sat at the restaurant, we met some Canadian guys, also backpackers and workers from South Korea, and we had a good time. At one point we met a Scottish guy who told us he was going to the Tiger Temple, north of Bangkok, the next morning, and of course we wanted to join him, and see the tigers for ourselves.
That meant that we had to get up at 6.30am and we went home to get some sleep. The next morning we felt surprisingly awake, and excited about the tour. As many (if not all) tours in Asia, you pay to see one thing but u get to see many more, sometimes unwillingly, but at this tour we got to experience some other cool stuff. First off, we went to the floating market, which is exactly what it sounds like, a market at the lake, and we cruised around in a 5-6 meter long boat. For various reasons we didn't buy much, but we spent some on taking photos of ourselves with 2 large pytons. We also saw, what was explained to us as small crocodiles, which in reality were mini-komodos. We saw parts of a snake-show, where one crazy guy fought a large cobra, smacking it on the head and so on. When they released a large "jumping"snake, and told us that it had a tendency to jump towards the crowd sitting and the closest row (where we of course sat!
) it got a bit to much, and the adrenalin started rushing extra. At one time it jumped almost over the 40cm fence(!) which held the snakes separated from us, and that gave us probably about 50 cm space. Luckfully
our guide came to the rescue, and told us that it was time to leave. Once we came to the tigertemple we had to cover up knees and elbows, and tie all loose strings or whatever, because tigers are big cats, and you do not want one to start playing with you!
The security was alright, they were chained, but let's just say that if the cat wanted to get you, it could've. We each got to go around and touch the tigers, and the staff took photos for us. The monk from the Animal Planet commercial was there, and we got to take photos with him, as long as we didn't touch him! All in all it was an amazing experience! Later that night we met up with the guys from the other night, and had some more beers and a lot of spring-rolls, which is the big hit right now!
The next day we took a flight to Koh Samui, a large island in the east golf, where, as we told earlier, we are at this moment. It's a bit touristy, but then again, we're just staying here for 2 nights. We found a nice hotel in a matter of 3 minutes, and felt that we did goooood! Cause of the busy days before, we decided to take these days/nights to just relax at the beach and regain some strength before heading towards Koh Phagnan tomorrow evening.
