Just had a lovely weekend in Ibarra, 2 hours from here.
We stayed in a hotel run by homicidal lesbians and we were the only guests. It was really big and empty and stuck in the 70s, all a bit The Shining! I made the homicidal bit up. The owners were definatly lesbians. I interrupted them in an inappropriate moment (it was dark, I needed to know if we could get our keys and you shouldn´t be doing that in reception...) and we had a good laugh about it. And they laughted about it again every time they saw me! Think it´s the most exciting thing in that place that´s happened for a while, it was very empty and there´s not much action in Ibarra! (Except when we´re in town, har har).
We went to some nice bars and went to a nice church with neon lighting and day-glow Jesuses and babies! It was a masterpiece of kitch. Actually green flourescent lighting to say a Bible quote made it look like the church had been built in Springfield but it was all part of the charm.
We also had some icecream from the most famous icecream shop in Ecuador. It´s made with straw and ice by hand in big copper pans and they used to bring the ice back from the volcanos in the olden days! It was really delicious too.
Oh and managed to practice my salsa on Friday. Have accomplished dream of being able to dance vaguely competently. Yayness.
