Well, I have been bugged endlessly for an account of my epic adventure to the jungle so here goes....
Just looked at my last entry for Riobamba. There were indeed Germans in the jungle. However. there were also dolphins and everything we wanted to see so that made up for it!
So the animals we saw were....
Pink dolphins
Grey dolphins
Manatee (or was it a particularly mobile log? It was just a big plop sound and a black blob!)
Tarantulas - the guide and the boys immediately went running off for something to to feed it! An innocent grasshopper was sacrificed for our entertainment. It was quite a sight to see it disappear into the jaws of death! It was in the bathroom though, so bit of a worry.... Jurrasic Park anyone?
Millipedes - did you know they smell of cherry? As if you would bother yourself to find out!
Parakeets
Macaws (lots- red and blue and green!)
Monkeys - 8 species in all. They were loads of fun to watch jumping and swinging in the trees. We also met a baby woolly monkey that was someones pet (and soon to be dinner!) and we played with it for ges, it was adorable!
Pirahnas - I caught 2! Apparently one was the smallest the guide had ever seen, but whatever. I got one!
Anaconda - huge! 2 metres! it was very calm though even when it had camera flashes in its face all day nd some idiot shaking the tree.
Viper - Steve, the quichua kid with us poked it with a stick! At night! Nowhere to run... not remotely stupid!
Biting bees - no stings, but me and John went up to their nest for a picture and instead of flying away they buried themselves in our hair! We were pulling them out for ages! And they bite!
Marching wasps - if you shout outside their nest they actually make a marching sound with their wings. It´s very creepy and sounds like a distant marching army!
Butterflies - the most beautiful I have ever seen
Caimans - we caught some! They are quite cute when they are babies, but we never found the mama.
Sloths- even when reaching for leaves they are slow. They are strange, needless to say they don´t do a lot!
Lots of birds, kingfishers, stinky turkeys, herons, lots of toucans....
The list of animals actually runs to about 80 different species!
I´ll update later, I´m chuchaqui! (hungover) and need some sleep and some grease!
EEEEEsssha!
