Nadia's Ecuadorian Adventure
Pictures will be up soon, we went to Atacames at the coast of Ecuador and ate the best seafood Ive ever had in my entire life, the spEciality is cerviche (raw fish soup) and it is divine. As is vicha (sic) which is peanut and fish soup. Huba huba. Its very much a party town too, beautiful beaches with lots of amazing bars and cheesy latino pop to shake your anos to. And everythings so colourful, its poor but all the houses and shops are painted bright colours and its like the 1950s commie style! And you build how and where you want. Its election time too so people paint the houses in the colours of the candidate they like, and of course, the obligatory handpainted cola cola signs. Its stunning, if only in a purely aesthetic way, in reality theres loads of crime and poverty. We stopped at a petrol station on the way home and were swamped with children saying "una dolare para comer" (one dollar to eat) all the time. They were really small little boys trying to be tough, you could tell they{d seen too much in their lives already. But you cant give them anything either in case the money is for drugs or just going to be taken by their parents. Its really sad and what do you say to a little 6 year old face at the window? Younger stll, even, theyre on the street as soon as they can walk. Its heartbreaking but you get resistant to it very quickly.
Danced all night! We played a lot of drinking games too, got some ace ones to bring home! para ejemplo, never have i ever, lots of card games and the "naranja game" where you get a box of orange juice, empty, cut off the top and have to get it off the floor only with your teeth! and you cut more off each round.... Told dirty jokes, bad jokes, sick jokes..... and chilled out by the pool. It was a great weekend.
