Slept like a baby in my own room. Managed to get myself out of the hotel by 10.30 and drove to the red beach which is actually red! You park around the cliff and then do a little hike there- i have never had to work so hard for a beach before no wonder European woman are so slim! I just hop out of the car and slump on Somerton, they have to hike and climb their way there.
An old Greek man started yelling ' white beach, black beach' and a boat pulled up. I saw on the map that it was the next one over so I grabbed my stuff and got on the boat. Apparently the white beach is only accessible by boat which is cool. I have a few videos of the journey I'll put up. The white beach was super rocky so I didn't get off but the boat ride is cool in itself.
The water is turquoise and so clear! I tried to video but not sure how it came out. On the way to the beach there was a little boat which people had hired and they were snorkeling- such a good idea! If I was with people and not so afraid of sharks I would def do that (are there even sharks in greece??).
Drove down to the port- it's like a zig zag all the way down. Purchased my ferry ticket for tomorrow night to go to Rhodes. I leave at 10.30pm.
Drove home and went and got a cheap yiros (still cannot get over that they come with chips in them). Was delicious but not as nice as the cheaper one I got yesterday so I will go back there tm.
Went home had another shower and drove to Oia for the sunset. I was way too early so I drove down to the port which is stunning. I saw two dogs laying on stairs and then went into the store the stairs led to. No one was in there but after a while i noticed they crept in and one went under the desk. Then the owner came down with her rat dog who just about lost its s*** at the other dogs and the owner shooed them out. But then i noticed one had taken the rat dogs bone from inside hahaha so cheeky i love it!!
Oia is enchanting, and really really beautiful. Donkeys everywhere. And a few little cats which are basically ragdolls they are so hot they just flop haha. Pretty sure this is where they filmed sisterhood of the travelling pants and not Thira.
I went and found the restaurant I got recommended (thalami- the only way i remembered it was salami but th haha) and made a booking and then walked back to where I had seen a nice bar and had a drink whilst looking out to the breathtaking view!
When I got back to salami my table was in the sun but the guy promised in 10 mins it will be the best seat in the house haha. The menu was amazing, Claire and I will have to come back here she will love it! I ordered the moussaka (how could I not its basically lasagna!).
Whenever men notice I am by myself they go out of their way to talk/smile/wink at me-like it's their job. Let me assure you men, its not, its just annoying. If I needed a date I'm sure I could find one. And he wouldn't be 40 serving svoulaki to tourists, trust me. I wonder if it will be better or worse with Claire here??
The moussaka was delicious and I was soo full I rolled out and pottered (I was walking annoying slow for anothers) through the streets trying to find a spot for the sunset.
I walked to the point of town- it was packed!! Saw some people on the roof of a ruin at the very point so I climbed a wall and sat down with some swedish girls I had met earlier in the day. Watched the sunset and ate baklava what more could you want. Then everyone started clapping a whistling but we were so far out we couldn't see what for but it was loud so I'm guessing someone proposed. I saw an amazing restaurant that had sunset views so I made a booking for Claire and I.
When I was walking out a yank tried to chat me up cos he 'saw you at the restaurant sitting by yourself' haha case and point on previous statement (which was written--while i was at dinner haha!!!) He had studied in Adelaide and was talking away and just before he asked me for a drink I was like my quads down here have a good night! And he didn't even respond haha just stood there it was weird but so was he. He had socks and sandals.
So I got my quad and couldn't get the lights to work. The sun had just set so it wasn't too dark so I quickly started up. I came around the first bend and there were a bunch of boys so I asked them and none of them could get them working. Luckily going out of Oia after sunset is like going home after seeing Christmas lights, bumper to bumper. When it thinned out it was quite dark and I got a little worried and put my hazard lights on. Then i told some American girls on a quad my lights weren't working so I convoyed home with them. As I pulled into my street a man was like your lights your lights!! And I'm like they wont work and his like turn the key one more time. Voila. Dammmmmitttt!!
