Its not a bright June afternoon anymore. Its late September and a rather gloomy day. The wind is howling and every now and then the heavens would open up and water the already wet land. Now dont get me wrong, my mood is not the same as the misreable weather, in fact, from the very second that i looked out my window and caught the first glimpse of the magnificent New Zealand coast, probably about 10 mins away from landing, i knew that i was gonna fall madly in love with the place! Now, i'm not sure if its because of the grey skies that befall London most days, or if its because of the yellow blanket thats covering South Africa during the dry winter months, but New Zealand seem so .... bright! Everything looks like its been washed clean - the colours are so distinct and so clear! The trees are so luminously green and the sea is the most exquisite colour of blue i've ever seen!
Its taken me a total of 5 days to get back into my sleep-routine. (Although it is fab to use jetlag as an excuse to sleep until past midday!). I dont feel like mentioning the horribly long flight, but I guess the point is that i survived it. The first leg of the flight i sat next to a rather cute Arab guy who was very happy to help me with my (very overweight and heavy) handluggage. The next stretch i sat next to a very upset young muslim lady who cried all the way (i think she was scared of flying) and then for the last stretch i sat next to a British lady who had this annoying habit of giving me the thumbs up everytime she finished a sentence (and yes i couldn't help but give her an extended fake grin with thumbs up every now and again, together with my *deer-in-the-headlights-look*).
Sorry its taken me so long to write, but as Phillip said, i had "writers block". Haha! I think i should be a writer, cause when i dont feel like working, i can just say "i'm going through a block". People might look at me like i'm a bit strange, but i'll know what i mean and thats all that matters.
I've already been to the beach twice. Even tho yesterday i probably looked like a nomad with my 2 pairs of stockings, 2 long-sleeve tops, 2 jerseys and a beanie.... to the beach I will go even if die of frostbite!!!!
Its been also rather interesting living in a proper family house with 2 teenage boys and a 3 year old. Trent and Biron have their own ideas about life and i find it rather intriguing, whereas Meagan is such a little ball of energy and innocence!! Its also been so amazing seeing Melanie again and i can see that i will have lots to tell you in future mails to come (even tho Mel says its very boring here, its everything but boring! We sat knitting the whole of last night! *pausing* ... What are you laughing about?! No, knitting is not out of character for me... i'm exploring my hidden talents. Just you wait 'til my scarf is done! Just you wait!).
Well lemme get going - it was awesome chattin' to ya! Hope to hear from you soon, and hope you're all fat and happy! My next update will be from the snowy slopes of Mount Raupehu and i'm either gonna be moaning that i cant ski, or i'm gonna brag about how good i am! ;-)
Lotsa love,
me xxx
PS: Oh Dave, specially for you, the last blonde moment i had. Wanna know how i distinguished my suitcase from the others on the conveyor belt at the airport? The key was still in the lock! Oh well, my bag was glad-wrapped so it wouldn't have made a difference anyway!
