Hey hey from KL!
I'm gonna try and update my blog back to tell about Ko Phangan....if I get time. This is gonna be a pretty boring entry as all we've done since Ko Phangan is travel...and travel!
In KL then, had such a panic leaving Ko phangan. We'd booked our joint taxi, boat, bus train ticket to Butterworth, and we waited half an hour before our boat left to realise our taxi wasn't tourning up (useless travel agents don't trust em!) Luckily we were back in our lovely bungalow where we'd stayed before so they knew us pretty well and the guy who owned it got his Pick up truck to take us to the pier (still cost 400bht but at least we got there!) so got the pier, boat journey so much better than the stomach churning one to Ko Tao, then got the bumpiest bus from Don Sak to Suart Thani train station. Had some dinner at a little street vendor and watched a dodgy thai movie...I think the acting and "special effect" and make up are that bad it makes it much easier not being able to understand the language, as you don't have to take it seriously then...saw a few cockroaches mosying around, just what I love to see when I'm eating, but sadly got used to it here!! Had my final Thai pancake, then moved onto the train station where another 3 hours of sitting around...finally got onto our train about 1.30am as it had been delayed and found my little bunk. It sucked that there was no space for luggage, but its times like these I'm so thankful that I'm so teeny, as I put my bags at the end of my bed and still had space for my legs...good old short legs! Put my eye mask and sole earplug in (I will say now that I think people who know they are a bad snorer should not be allowed to sleep on public transport. I have no problem with light snorers, or even loud snorers if its regular, I actually find it quite relaxing oddly if its nice and rythmical (sp?)...but people who are loud and irregular, or grunt or whatever should not be allowed to sleep on public transport....that is all). I managed to sleep ok despite waking up at every stop/every bump.
About 8am or so we pulled into the Malaysian border where we got off with all ours bags and queued and got our passports stamped, then got back on the train and the bunks were now seats....
After a few more hours got to Butterworth, absoutely starving...but there was seriously nothing there....so quickly booked a train ticket to KL for roughly 4 quid (bargain) and got on that...soooo much better than the one to Chiang Mai! arrived in China Town in KL (all happy cuz the Petronas towers looked so pretty all lit up!). We wandered around so completely starving by this point as hadn't eaten anything except some strange vegetable crisps all day...tried a hotel and they were fully booked...some tout outside said that all the hotels were fully booked and he'd take us to one, its was just over a tenner a night...and it was a dump. it was in a dodgy place, didn't look to safe/clean/cockroach free, but hey...we booked in, and i guess we were lucky. we wandered around all the hotels in the area and they were all fully booked for the next few nights...so found an internet cafe and searched and found only 3 hotels in the whole of KL that weren't booked up for the next two nights...so we've booked one (about to find out if its just as bad as the last!) and we finally got some dinner (which was ruined halfway through by spotting more cockroaches dammit luckily the small variety...cuz that makes it so much better!!) and went back to the skanky hole and slept....so tired actually slept quite well!
Off to explore the sights of KL now, and will try to updatr again soon!
