My dive was at 9am so I was given a talk and after about 5 mins we were walking along the beach with our kit on ready to dive. In the shallows I had to practise the breathing underwater until I was comfortable and then we moved out further. I thought I might freak out but was completely fine - strangest feeling that you can just breathe away underwater! I kept being bitten by sea lice though, they're so tiny you can't see them but damn they sting! Was underwater slapping and jerking around - ouch
We were only our about 15 metres when the shoals of fish were round us and thankfully the lice weren't It was amazing, I think in total we couldn't have been further out than about 50 metres and the reef was just full of fish. I saw a few 'Gills' from Finding Nemo and shoals of hundreds of different fish, blue star fish, sea cucumbers and the list goes on. And I wasn't scared of sharks! When I was down there it didn't seem so scarey and I actually wanted to see one of the reef sharks! Shock horror!
We were under water for about 30 minutes and I'll defnitely be doinf it again if I can afford it later on along the way! You're just in a different world - awesome!
Afterwards we all just chilled out by the sea with books and finished off the day with dinner and drinks. Such a great day.
The next day 3 of us got the kayaks out and hired snorkels to go out to the reef again - it was just as stunning from at the top of the water and we were probably snorkelling for a good hour and a half. We saw an octopus and a huge shoal of clown fish and everything else I'd seen the day before. We then had lunch and had to pack to leave. So sad to leave the islands as there are so many more to visit! I'll definitely be coming back here!
All in all I've loved Fiji. The main island was an eye opener and I'm really glad I saw the real Fiji but the Islands were then the complete contrast and I had a great xmas and met some great people!
