So on tuesday we (matt, some american dude from the bus station and i) got a bus from Rio to ilha grande. Perfect day for travelling as the rain started again. We were meant to get a normal hostel transfer but two sweedish girls had so much luggage there was no room for us. The bus took us to a town where we got a taxi to the dock. On arrival we got shouted at alot and the next minute we were on some fishing boat with a pile of other people. Took a hour or two to get to the island. On approach to the island it reminded me very much of the island in the tv program Lost. When we got there we had to walk along the beach then a bit through the jungle to get to the hostel. When we got to the hostel it turned out it was full but we had a secret weapon, some unreadable message on a bit of paper that a taxi driver in rio gave us. When handed to the crazy old woman she went a bit mental and took us to a room and started ripping bedding off and throwing peoples stuff out the way and said it was our beds now. Later when i went to get something from the room a member of staff tells me that it was her room and she had to now find somewhere else to sleep. Feeling guilty we offered to make a bed btu she declined. Later again when i went to the room i got shouted at by some crazy argentinian, but not being a spanish speaker i didnt understand a word she was saying but a australian translated for me that one of the beds was hers which wasnt a problem as there was a bed free. The argentinian couldnt of been that mad at me tho cos when i went to bed she started showing me stones she had on a plate. I have absolutly no idea what the stones were for and because of the comunication barrier i didnt find out. I just came to the conclusion she was crazy. The next day we decided to go to the beach, there were two options: walk or get a boat. We decided to walk so of we set into the jungle on what was barely a path. Two hours later we found a resteraunt in the absolute middle of no where getting beer delivered by the beer boat. We ate there but i think they had the chilled out beach attitude as we were there for almoste an hour waiting for a single course. Eventually once the woman had been out hunting for the food and we had eaten we set of for Lopez Mendes which is meant to one of the top 10 beaches in the world. I was fairly cool and i went for a swim. At the end of the day we decided to get the boat back. That evening i signed up for a diving course, PADI open water. Over the next couple of days we watched training videos at night and dove during the day. The First dive was just in a lagoon with shallow water just learning how to do it all. The second was to a massive helecopter. The Third was just to see sea life, we seen turtles, congur eels and hundreds of fish. The forth dive was the best. When we arrived on the site the brazillian army were all about with GPS ect trying to find the boat but our instructor has parked right over it. So the army all came diving down with us. The boat was massive, it was a cargo ship that had been carrying wood but went of fire when they all got drunk. We got to dive inside the hull right through the ship and out a hole in the side. When diving we were all confused by the hand signals the instructr was making up. One of them turned out to be the propeller(him twirling his finger about) and the other was where the captain steered( a salut and and steering wheel motion) In the evening i pased the test and got the certificate. The next day i got a boat to the mainland and waited 5 hours for a bus to Sao Paulo. I went into the city centre for a hour but as it was first thing in the morning there wasnt much to see. I just went back to the bus station and got a bus to Foz do Iguazu.
