So Arrived in Foz Do iguaçu first thing in the morning. I had to wait in the bus station and watch wierd japenese shows till the internet cafe opened. Once it did i went and found a hostel to go to, grabbed a taxi and went there. It was really wet day. Later there was a proper thunder storm. I spent all day really just in side watching films ect. As its winter here is off season for the tourists/travellers so because of ths all the hostel are very quiet, this hostel was no exception. Had a pleasent surprise in the hoste, i met my first scotsman. I've met people from sweden, uk, us, canada, israel, germany, denmark, australia, new zealand , korea, holland and france. I was meeting mainly people from sweden but down here it must be to cold for them as ive not met any for days. So yeh iquassu, the first day out i went to see the Itaipu damn. The damn is one of the biggest in the world. It produces 80% of paraquays power and like a quarter of brazills, so it is fairly big. The damn sounded cool but when we got there, waited for hours a for the tour, got stuck on a coach with logos all over the windows so you couldnt really see and then driven past then over the damn we realised we had wasted a day. Yeh is was a cool big damn but wasnt the most interesting tour we could of ever gone on. Sorry i just realised ive been saying we, we is me and a girl i met in the hostel that was doing the touristy things too. So the next day we went to the falls themself on the brazillian side. To our dissapointment because of all the rain the falls had went completly crazy meaning alot of the viewing platform were underwater. On the way to the falls we had bumped into the staff from the hostel who were also going to have a look. One of the guys from the hostel had worked at the falls in the past and becuase of this we got to go out onto a platform they used for absailing to take some photos. The platform was well above the water just down from the falls, was cool but was it bent about while we walked about on it it was rather unsetteling. We then dawned our lovely fashionable ponchos and went along the trail beside the falls. Now this side of the falls was very good for seeing all of the falls from a distance which is good but you dont really get the feel of how much water there is but as we got closes right into the falls i was very wet. All the staff were hiding inside. After the falls we went across the road to a bird park. The bird park is massive and has close to 1000 birds. Alot of parrot type birds but alot of others. Was a cool park but we were short of time so had to rush it a bit. Yes one bird did take a disliken to me and i had to hide untill it went away. It was fast! I certainly have inprooved my skills for running away from dangerous animals. The was another cage full parrots like the ones everyone thinks of with the red, blue ect. A smaller bird landed on one of my shoulders and as i stood awkwardly trying to get rid of it with some crazy bird lady(who did not work there) another huge parrot landed on my other shoulder. What a great photo opertunity, yes but not great for my clothes as i was extremly paranoid they qould s*** on them and not having many clothes with me it would proove a disaster. Luckily the birds didnt drop any bombs. So when the large parrot landed on my shoulder the smaller bird took a disliking to it. They then started fighting over liam shoulder space and i was stuck in the middle of it so i swiftly removed the birds and got out of there. The next day i went to the Argentinian side which obviously involved a border crossing but a swift one as i didnt need to get stamped out of brazil. The Argentinian side of the falls is a national park as well so cost more to go visit as it was more day out than a view point. There was silly wee train that you could go on but it was far easier to walk to the falls. There was a selection of different trails you could go on. We did the upper and the lower falls ones. On these trails unlike the brazillian side you were on top of the falls themselves so it was easier to see the sheer amount of water. Got alot of pictures from there but was a nightmare as the amount of mist/spray/rain that came from the falls kept soaking our cameras. We decided to do a boat ride to the falls which also involed a ride through the jungle on a military style lorry and a garbled commentary from a guy at the front. No idea what he was saying but the people up the front kept turning and looking at things so we all did the same but aparrently he must of been talking about trees as thats all i could see. So to the boat ride.. It was speed boat. We were givin a life jacket and a back to put our stuff on to keep dry. The boat wasnt so big but held about 20 to 30 people i think. The guy went for it through the rapids soaking us on the way. He took us up close to the falls but it was a nightmare to see as the spray and the sun just caused a missive glare. It was fun but was not really a photo taken opportunity. Once dryed of a bit we got a bus back to the hostel.
