The drums that I heard during the writings of my last blog turned out to be a small parade that one of the local temples do every Thursday. At moment I am trying to upload all my photos onto Snapfish and it is taking such a long time.
Getting into work was a little bit of a challenge Friday due to monsoon rain. Rain was running down street that I live on and I was thinking do I go out or not. Rain hasn't stopped me going to work before so don't see why it should stop me now even if I am in different country. The rain was just about manageable even though it was extremely heavy but when got to main road and vehicles began splashing puddles over me it wasn't very amusing. Managed to get an auto and pay double the price for it but I just wanted to get to work. It did take longer than normal as auto stopped working for 5 minutes when the engine got waterlogged. When I arrived I went in toilet cleaned my feet and changed my shoes. Work wasn't that interesting Friday but got to see the doctors and nurses working at different paces. After work I got an auto to Nehru Place, met Jo there my roommate and went to met her friend Karim who runs a bookstore. Books were piled high on street. For some reason though there was alot of flies around so there must have been some food nearby. We then went for a McDonalds (not Indian but it was quick. We were going to have Domino's which isn't anymore Indian but there wasn't time). We went to watch Bollywood film Bodyguard. Really enjoyable and funny despite it nearly all being in Hindi. We got the gist of the story but I would like to see it when I get back with English subtitles so can get more of the jokes and the full story.
Yesterday spent a hectic, busy day at the markets which was a little stressful too. On way to underground visited Iscon temple and walked through the park. We (me and Jo) started off at Saroghini market where we got some scarfs, I got a sari and Jo got some trousers. I got a sari as I thought I was going to an Indian wedding last night which I was really looking forward to. The wedding turned out to be next month which we found out just after I had bought sari. Me and Jo though are going to have photos together in the saris before she goes. We then went to Delhi Hat (a handicraft and food market) where Jo bartered for scarfs and wallet. Problem is each time you move on to a different stall you start the same process again I will make you a good deal, you are my first customer of the day etc etc etc. Jo really struggled trying to get scarves and she was getting ready to scream. After that went to Chadni Chowk market as I wanted to get medical textbooks and we were already tired but I was worried that wouldn't be able to get them on Sunday. It was full of narrow streets and there were hardware stalls as well so went past places selling taps etc. We were looking for an ATM as both of us had no money as I had been lending Jo money all day. Every ATM kept running out just as we got towards the front of the queue, they were hard to find or we opened the door to find that there was building work going on inside. We got to front of queue of one cash machine and Jo put her card in to find out she had run out of money and needed to transfer some from another bank account. I then tried to get my money out and people kept peering over my shoulder so I kept doing things wrong. Finally moved to Axis bank and managed to get some money out. I then went and got a medical textbook. Not sure that I got the right one but it was so much cheaper than it would have been in England. Some of the doctors have recommended books to me and I fancied reading some while I am here. We then got auto back which stopped at garage on way for petrol.
We then had a quick 30 mins back at homestay before going out again to get an auto to Vasant Kunj VK (or something like that) to another interns (Johnny) homestay. It was his last night so we were invited round for dinner. I expected it to be really quite developed there from what I had read about Vasant Kunj before I came out to India. I thought I was going to be placed there so I had read about it. I am so glad I wasn't placed there it was like a small village with no decent roads. Wouldn't have believed you were anywhere near Delhi. I am in a place called East of Kailash. We went through night market to get there in ricksaw but after so long had to walk as roads are bad. To walk to underground or to an auto stand would probably have been about 20 minutes. On way back me, Jo and Johnny managed to get a lift to main road. I wasn't sure I was too happy with as don't think Johnny knew the person. However, it saved us walking it. Then got auto to underground, went on underground and auto from underground to homestay.
Today I've just been relaxing and organising things as got up late, got a dodgy tum and needed to do some washing. May go to theatre later on but can't see it happening as it is quite far away.

Jo Hopper Hi Suzanne, I have just been catching up with your blog. You must be worn out all that sight seeing and working as well. You were soooooooo brave in the airport leaving Kolkata, what a carry on that was! You managed though and seem to be doing fine in Delhi. Glad you have found some new friends, its fun sightseeing with someone to chat too. Keep going and keep writing! Love Jo X X
alice Alice here suzanne. Still impressed by your blogs, we had a lovely time with your Mum and Dad and I gave lazer a cuddle from you. Must be awful with all that rain. We had gales on Monday and it rained all day, sounds petty in comparison to what you are going through. Have a very Happy Birthday Suzanne. Strangely Iain and I were just up at Cameron House tonight where you spent your 21st birthday. Look forward to seeing you in a Sari. Enjoy the rest of your adventure and we will catch up later. Love Alice
Suzanne Thanks dad, Jo and Alice for your messages. Tum has been weird for last week but think its just a different diet. Doesn't cause me too much trouble as it is generally in morning and at night. Nope didn't get to theatre. Working tomorrow going to go and see them insert a pacemaker. Learnt such alot being a medical intern. Some days are boring but some have been so interesting. Was very frustrating in Kolkata thinking I may miss the flight but I couldn't really do anything about it. Glad I'm not doing anymore internal flights though apart from with my tour group. Well person I'm sharing a room with has now gone home so will probably do the sightseeing on my own. Met a few Indian males in the hospital that seem pretty keen to go out with me. Slightly worrying in some cases. Glad you had a nice time with parents. Yep had it again this morning really heavy with thunder and lightening. Thanks for birthday wish Alice. Have had a good day. Love Suzanne x
