An early start today for our long drive over the border into Queensland to Charleville. At the border we got rid of some grapes, but everything else was fine.
We stopped at Cunnamulla for lunch - the Information Centre was closed, but had an information booklet for visitors, so after checking out the Cunnamulla Fella (a big bronze statue) drove out to the Alan Tannock Weir on the Warrego River - it was quite nice, but a lone old guy just sitting in his ute gave us the creeps and Mum & Dad weren't comfortable - we were 5km out of town on a lone road and the outback is dead quite these couple of weeks. So we drove back towards town and crossed the bridge and had some lunch near the riverbank.
The drive from Bourke to Charleville was interesting - we saw about 150 emus, about 150 goats, and only a few kangaroos. Unfortunately, Dad had to navigate around about 200 recently killed kangaroos still on the road, and we saw absolutely hundreds of kangaroo carcasses in various stages of decomposition - you could actually smell them even in the car!
We arrived at Charleville and went straight to the Information Centre where there's a great cosmos centre with information about astronomy and also some astrology. We checked into the Bailey Bar Caravan Park and relaxed away the afternoon. We were booked into the Night Show at the Cosmos Centre, but it was too cloudy, so we're hoping to do it tomorrow night instead.
