It's seems to be the norm these days to check in at the airport and get collared by a desperate alcohol salesman who doesn't expect us to buy anything but needs to prove that they are trying to their on looking superiors. This is a win win situation for everybody. We both get three glasses of wine and some knowledge about the regional production and in return we give the guy a very interested and inquisitive performance. Waiting for the flight we were apprehensive as of course by now we are used to the exceptional service of emirates but for this domestic flight we had booked with virgin. It soon became clear that Branson has done his research and two films later we arrived in Perth, well fed and watered.
Trying to make the pickup easier for Mel we ventured out of the airport to a nearby pickup point. Obviously forgetting we were now back to the land of snakes and spiders, we walked through the over grown verge along a freeway to reach the meeting point. Later recognising that we had completed an unnecessary lap of the airport.
Mel arrived in his newly purchased Aussie mobile (Jeep) and we made our way up the west coast highway to the northern suburb of Butler. On first impression the west coast seems more natural and untouched as we headed north from one of the most isolated cities in the world.
Within an hour we got to the Swallow/Wishart mansion where Mel performed a short version of MTV Cribs, giving us the grand tour. Their house is a beautiful, welcoming, open plan haven that offers hard to resist relaxation. Needless to say the rest of the night included a curry, a stop at the Bottle-o and a huge catch up.
