Since our arrival in WA we have heard nothing but good things about Fremantle or ‘Freo’, so we dedicated today to the quirky, historic suburb. The winter festival that was in full swing gave the place a really surreal atmosphere for the following reasons;
- It was 23 degrees Celsius.
- Not a cloud in the sky.
- There were Christmas trees and fake snow blowers.
- An ice rink in the park with 2 cm of water on the surface due to the heat.
- People paying $10 for a bucket of snow to have a snowball fight in the dedicated areas.
It was almost like the German Market had rocked up in the wrong place. It made us really grateful for the atmosphere that our winter season provides us with in England. And then we had a thought….. It is not even Christmas Time, it’s just cold. It did make for good viewing but eventually we tore ourselves away from watching people falling over for the sea front. We made the transition from winter wonderland to beach front and fresh snapper and chips within minutes. To walk off the food coma we visited the home of the original POMES, Fremantle High Security Prison.
Matt and Mel went for a beach front run to try and rid of some beer calories while the sunset. One challenge was on everybody’s mind…. The Crazy Golf tournament we had planned for tonight. The girls were instantly written off from the competition but the Lads were neck and neck all the way. But to give credit to all four of us, we all got a hole in one somewhere along the course. After a nervous penultimate hole by Matt, Mel took the lead at the last minute. Yet another wood fired pizza was on the menu tonight…. Not that we are complaining. It reminds us of the pizzas from Rambo on Camp Du Pilon, South of France.
