Today was my last day in Jambiani but it was eventful nonetheless.
The adult teaching was good where they read books and we asked a few questions. A bit hit and miss on their understanding but it was rewarding to see the people who did get it. Another game of pictionary which also was great fun. It was a bit sad to leave so soon but I did get a few photos for remembrance.
Nursery school was a smaller class and mix of older and younger group. Some kids got the exercises very quickly but others really struggled. I helped some individually but not really enough time. Class ended early since it is prayer day for the Muslims. For the same reason, we had an early lunch and then rest of the day off. I made it to the Internet cafe and for a swim, a good visit with Geoff and Karen and Dulla and Luke.
Dinner, Luke and I headed to JTTI for the weekly special meal. Fusion this week with sushi for appetizer and pasta for the meal. It was quite. Basically $20 for appetizer, meal, dessert and juice. Not bad. After we visited with Mama Pat who own/run JTTI .
Basically it's a school for adults and a clinic as well. Mama Pat seems to run the school and her husband Alistair (Ali Baba) runs the clinic. They get volunteers to help. They have an amazing kitchen where they are accredited to train people to run a restaurant as chefs, cooks, servers, etc.
Mama Pat and Ali Baba are ex pats from Canada, from Victoria. She told me she was a teacher at Oak Bay when in Canada so very different for them now. They get home about every 2 years.
It was also nice getting to know Luke. I found out we think quite a lot alike, so that made it easy to talk. Luke has been here for about four months and is committed for a year but may stay longer. He is close to his family so that made it a bit tough for him.
Time for bed now since I'm planning to get up early to catch the sunrise over the Indian ocean
