Well, we started our safari adventure today. First we started by buying some groceries, water, etc. then headed to our campsite and with a tour of Mto Wa Mbu village, checking their agriculture and arts including woodcarving and painting. I picked up a painting. We also had lunch there which was nice and filling. The campsite is by the village and we had a chance to get set up there. This campsite is nice. . .enclosed, with a bar, swimming pool , hot shower, electricity and Internet if we want it. Luxury compared to the Serengeti the next 2 nights. It will still be a campsite there just not any luxuries, possibly not even running water.
From the village tour, we headed to Lake Manyara preserve to see some animals. It took some time but we did get to see some giraffe and elephants up close, as well as baboons, impalas, other monkeys, zebras, wildebeest, birds incl flamingoes. Overall, a good experience. One elephant actually passed right behind our vehicle to cross the road. Pretty awesome start to our safari and probably the least exciting park. We even saw some lions but they were mostly in the shade a distance away.
Dinner at the campsite was good and we had some beers and played cards. Presidents and a******s is the game. Something I haven't played before.
That's about it for now. Time to see how well I'll sleep in the tent.
