Awoke at 3am with a swoosh on my ipad. Lovely sound as I know its connection with Rrrr. Back to sleep only to get up at 5am as I'm on phusa. Morning drive with Sabrina. See giraffe, waterbuck & impala on the way to find lions-Mbhurri (male), Matumi (collar), Mica & Selati(in bushes behind). We push through the bush & get about 10 metres from the lions. The big male is walking back & forth to his lady friend who is hiding behind the bushes & is only slightly visible. One of the smaller lions keeps following him & then they all flop down together & rest. This cycle of pacing & resting goes on for some time. Liz drops the data book on ground near lions-retrieval is tricky & Sabrina is not impressed. Mburri lets out a deep roar as he wants to mate & there's lots of agitated pacing & scruffing. We leave to guide in a truck of land owners who have called in to view the lions. When we return we see Mburri mating with Selati. What an action packed morning.
Afternoon drive with Stacy. I'm on telemetry again searching for leopard. Have to carry an ardvaak carcass in the back & it stinks. No luck so we climbed a koppie to get a better signal. Mary Beth twisted her ankle, got attacked by bees & Liz barely made it. Have a brai of impala stew that tastes like veal.
