Tucuman...not much to say about this place to be honest. We stopped here for a couple of reasons...
1. The journey from Iguazu to here was long enough to make a good dent on the journey to the North of Argentina.
2. We needed a place to just crash for a couple of days, do some laundry and plan the next stage of our trip.
Firstly, we managed to choose a place that did not have laundry facilities so one of the main reasons for stopping was quickly postponed to the next destination. D'oh! I'm not one for pointing fingers but I'll just say that going forwards future hostels will be reviewed by the female half of the Hadley pair before they're booked!!!
The hostel wasn't that bad really. It was just a bit of town with basic facilities. We did however cook for ourselves for the nights we were there and that was brilliant. It was so nice to have some vegetabes and rice for a change although we didn't boycott the Argentinian way altogether and still included some lush steak in our meals.
We also managed to practice some Spanish as we spoke to a couple of locals staying in the hostel. The guy we spoke to was from Buenos Aires so he spoke a little English so between us we managed to have a good old chat for a couple of hours.
Tucuman is just a regular city so we took the chance to plan the rest of our trip as there wasn't much to see in the area. There are some beautiful parts in the North that we want to see and we also have some exciting ideas for Bolivia as well.
We did have a small drama at the local post office when we tried to mail some stuff home. We wanted to mail about 4kg worth of stuff home but that would have involved (we eventually worked out with our rubbish Spanish) taking the box to another location, having someone look at it and then bringing it back to the post office to send. We decided to split the parcel into 2 2kg packages which the post office would send (without the checking!). However, this made it more expensive and we didn't have enough money on us.... so not taking travellers cheques or VISA Aaron went running around the town looking for an ATM. But because it was the first day after the local holidays, there were queues around the block at the ATMs, that hadn't run out of money, so there was no chance of getting some cash. After what amounted to about 2 hours of going backwards and forwards we eventually gave up on the whole thing and went to get our bus to Tafi Del Valle - where hopefully there will be ATMs with money, hostels with laundry services and things for us to do.....
