Fraser Day 2Up at 6am, grim. Had brekkie and began the days tour of fresh water lakes. This doesn?t sound all that exciting but when you see the pics you?ll see why we were well up for it. The 1st lake had a massive sand dune bank so you could roll down it into the cold water. There was so much sand that it was like the Sahara desert rolling into a huge pool. You can even drink the water as it filters through the sand, even though massive fish could be seen swimming around with us when we were in the water. The 2nd lake was a little different in that it was much bigger and the water was completely clear. The sand surrounding it was so white and fine, it looked like a postcard pic from Barbados or somewhere like that. In fact the sand was so fine, its used commercially to clean jewelry - it polished up my chain a treat! On top of this beautiful view was the most scorching temperature since Fiji. It was soo hot that even I thought about putting stronger sun cream on! The pictures couldn?t do the lakes justice really, no matter how hard we tried. After spending the day sunning and swimming we had a bbq before heading back to the beach to camp. This camp site had far more Dingoes around than we had seen before. I didn?t know that they were dangerous, but apparently they will go for you, especially as we were there during mating season. Luckily there were no attacks, even though I did come face to face with one when I went for a slash in the bush. Thankfully a man with my physique is in no danger Hahanah! The night was spent talking football with the guys on our bus and playing a game where you name as many players you can for a premiership team??..I struggled to handle the excitement. Went to bed early for another 6am start, to the sound of Wes reciting scenes from Pulp Fiction - queue ?Hell negro, that?s all you had to say? for the 100th time J . Fraser day 3Up early for our last day on the island. Everyone had agreed to get on the ferry back to the mainland a bit early so that I could catch my bus to Airlie Beach (Duncs had to book onto Wes?s one because I took the last Greyhound seat) but we still had time to fit in the last lake of note on the island. The lake contained this mud that is meant to stain skin if its not washed off. We had a few goes at making tattoos using it, but it didn?t really work and it all washed off. We actually got to the lake before anyone else so we had excellent views, and could drink the water before people started swimming/pissing in it!At 12ish we had to leave for the ferry. Luckily Wes stepped up to drive which was the best result I could have wished for seeing as though my intentions to drive were too obvious (floor it to get the ferry in time) and everyone else would get me there far too late. On the beach straight I stirred things up by reminding Wes to put his foot down. This sparked major panic as I hoped and Scott (the guy too young to drive) said ?I?d rather get back in 1 piece than you catch your bus?. I reminded them that the speed limit was 80kmph and we were doing 65 and Wes then upped the pace, turning the idiots faces green. The drama thankfully continued as we part of the beach that was blocked buy driftwood and the tide was coming in. We?re not allowed to get saltwater on the jeep, but other cars were timing the waves in order to get around with minimum splash. I was pretty confident I could do the same but Scott insisted that if I tried I would pay all the fines?..again I somehow managed to refrain from murdering him.Eventually an old boy offered to drive it across for us as he was a fisherman and used to such obstacles. Luckily everyone agreed with a bit of pleading and we were across. He did splash a fair bit up the side which sent everyone loopy about losing the deposit (which we hadn?t even put down) but we didn?t care as we were now on the home straight. We got back in good time for my bus and I said the most unconvincing farewell to our group. All three of us agree that they were the most petty collection of people, and I think me and Wes would extended our hatred much further than that.Fraser was a lovely place, we just got unlucky with our group. On the way to Airlie I had a 3hour stop in Hervey Bay and as I was on my tod I treated myself to an all you can eat Pizza hut buffet and hours worth of wireless internet. Expensive, but I deserved it J . Strangely I saw Duncs and Wes at a service station in the middle of nowhere on the way, because our buses stopped for a break at the same place.
