Sawat Dii!
We arrived in Bangkok and having travelled half way around the world we still couldnt avoid friday night rush hour! After spending an hour an a half in a mad taxi with a taxi driver that watched the tv and created his own lane on the road, we arrived at our hotel, which was surprisingly upmarket for a group of travellers. We headed to khosan road to sample some thai cuisine before heading back for an early night. We did have our first near death experience as the roads and drivers are mental! the only way to cross is to gamble with your life, forcing your way into the traffic and hoping people will stop.
After a restless night we ventured out to see the sights. Thai people are very friendly, offering directions that seem to just lead you in circles! After a long walk we eventually found Standing Buddha! We had our first tuk tuk ride. Tuk tuking is fun, you can weave through the traffic but need to hold on tight or risk falling out. We took a river boat to the temple of dawn (renamed temple of doom by Zak because of the dangerously steep stairs!) and went off to see the lazy Buddha!
After a disgusting thai lunch we decided to try our hands at bartering. We tried unsuccesfully to agree a price with several tuk tuk drivers to get to the zoo. They weren't too impressed when we dropped from 100 to 60 baht and as prices seemed to increase we gave up. Now we are sat here writing this instead of spending time at the zoo!
Off out tonight to sample bangkok nightlife and look forward to our american style breakfast feast provided by the hotel in the morning!
