We reached Ko Phi Phi with high expectations because it is reputed to be one of the most beautiful islands to see in Thailand, along with those that surround it. However, our first impressions when we got there were that it was just too touristy, with loads of holidaymakers and backpackers milling around at the pier and along the streets - I suppose it was to be expected with a world class reputation. Tourism had obviously inflated the prices as we were struggling to find a room for less than 15 pounds - this was almost 4 times more than what we paid in Chiang Mai. But we found a room eventually that was much nicer and cleaner than the one in Rai Leh, despite being the same price. The afternoon was spent exploring what the island had to offer, with Leanna and Zak doing some shopping for Chirstmas (Zak bought a reindeer outfit to wear at the Full Moon Party on Chrstmas Eve) and Nikki heading down to the beaches. In the evening, Zak decided to head to a restaurant that was playing 'Superbad' and 'American Gangster', while Nikki and Leanna had dinner elsewhere and bought their sexy Mrs Santa outfits before heading back to the room (pictures maybe a certificate 18!). The next day we each went our own way with Zak heading out on a rock climbing session on the island for the morning, Nikki going down to the beach to relax, and Leanna having a 'special Brazillian wax' session. The rock climbing was fantastic according to Zak, who has really become smitten with the adventure sport, and Nikki enjoyed wading around in the water on the beach while colourful little fish were swimming round her legs. Leanna's beauty session was 'an experience' because it was apparently undertaken by a ladyboy who seemed to take great care in inspecting Leanna thoroughly between the legs! Leanna said she enjoyed it very much! In the afternoon, Zak and Nikki hooked up on a longtail boat to go snorkelling around some small islands. They got to see some amazing coral formations and many brightly coloured fish of all shapes and sizes, including sharks, sea cucumbers and a small puffer fish which the dive leader caught. It was cute as it had puffed itself up into a small ball - we all gave it a cursory poke to see what it felt like! t the beginning of the trip, Nikki wasn't too enthusiastic about swimming around with sharks in the vicinity. However, by the end, she was glad she had done it and she enthused about the amazing sealife we had seen. At the end of the trip we headed out to the island where 'The Beach' had been filmed - and yes, it looks as good as it does in the film! The only downside was that sunset had to be watched out on the boat outside of the cove, as we couldn't see the sun from the beach due to the time of the year. While on the beach, Zak took part in some bouldering, which is a form of rock climbing involving short climbs without a rope. He was completely outdone by the climbing instructor, who was able to clamber up walls and hang like monekys do! The only way to describe the sunset at the end of our trip was magnificent - it was a perfect end to the day. That is until Zak (who had worked up a major appetite) went to a Japanese All-You-Can-Eat buffet, ate way too much, and ended up throwing up during the night! Fourtunately, everything was fine by the morning and we made ready for the journey that lay ahead to Koh Phangan, the party island of Thailand!
