Well its official - weve arrived! We got to the airport all ok and met up with Helens friend who works for BA - he very handily upgraded us to Business Class which was very nice indeed although we did end making it rather obvious to all other passangers that we had never been in it before by having no idea how anything works! Ah well! Anyway we ended up being delayed in leaving and after a very longflight with very little sleep we arrived in Tokyo at 12pm Japanese time. We worked out how to get to our hotel changing on the metro several times and set off. We thought it would be rather a short trip but it ended up being well over an hour with our backpacks on and my god did it hurt. By the time we got off the metro I felt like I could hardly walk as it was soooo heavy (how does everyone else manage it?) ¥! We then proceeded to get lost and by the time we finally found our hotel I could have cried from the pain of carrying it! Good start hey! Anyway we were there and our room was hilariously small with 1 bed having to be pulled out from under the other and the sink having to be swung either way to either use the loo or have a shower! We then set out and visited a very pretty shrine and walked around getting the feel of Tokyo. Wandered into Electric City which is like being on drugs - everything is so loud and bright! Had dinner and I managed to claim my 1st souviner by requesting my noodle spoon and the poor waiter had no idea what I was asking for so just said yes! Mwahahah! The next day we went to Ueno Park and walked for miles! It is full of really beautiful shrines (one of which was for fertility! - always nice!) and statues etc. We then went to Tokyo centre to see a glimpse of the imperial palace. We could see Tokyo tower so I thought it would be a good idea to walk there. Teehee it was soo far away we walked for hours but did finally make it in the end! In the evening we planned to have dinner overlooking Tokyo Bay but by 9.50pm we were still walking having tried to be cheap and not by any extra metro tickets and hadnt found it and it was raining! Ended up in a Wendys (were not proud of it it just happended!) for dinner and then 2 mins round the corner finally found the bay. We then had to haularse it back to our hotel through fear of being locked out! However we really enjoyed Tokyo and are both confident that we have shed several stone due to the amount of walking we did! Yesterday we headed to the train station to get the train to Takamatsu (where Clem lives). We got mightly confused by the guy selling the tickets and it ended up costing us 79 pounds!! It also turns out that 24 pounds of that was for reserving a seat! Wont be doing that again thats for sure! We got to Takamatsu after 4 1/2 hours and met up with Clem. Went out in the evening with some of Clems friends and his girlfriend Sayaka to a resturant where nothing was in English! Clem ordered for us and we worked our way through dishes of Carpaccio of Tai (Raw fish), Tempura Octopus, Chikuwa and cream cheese (which was like crab sticks) and Pig tongue! Everyone who knows me should be very VERY proud! Of course there were other scrummy dishes aswell and it was a really lovely meal! We then went on to a Kareoke Bar and sang our hearts out with all you could drink for 2 hours!! Was so much fun and Clems friends are really nice! So that leads us to today where I am currently still at Clems (who is probably reading this! - Hi! Thanks so much for letting us stay!) and am heading off to Ritsurin Park in a mo which is meant to be one of the prettiest parks in Japan before meeting Clem from work to go and watch him play basketball! We are then off to Kyoto on Saturday before heading to China on Tuesday! Laura xxx
