The next day was spent in bed suffering again with whatever this bug is that won't shift!
Later in the evening we waited for the coach to Chiang Mai to collect us for the hostel. 20 minutes later a taxi arrives which was strange and said he was taking us to the coach. 10 minutes later he kicks us out on the middle of a Bangkok highway and we are led by another thai gentleman through the moving cars to a bus stop.
A mere 12-hours feeling like this - was not fun, however luckily managed to sleep for part of it. A midnight stop at some random service and some undesirable thai toilets and we were back on the road!
Finally we were dropped in the middle of nowhere (yet again) and told to get off the coach.
We were shortly piled into a rickety looking small van, where I unfortunately drew the short straw ending up at the end of the bench hanging out the back of the open van staring down at the road. One bump and I would have seen concrete but luckily my bag which had been thrown on top and left unsecured would most likely have come with me.
A brief journey and we pulled into a hostel and were given a welcome talk but a man who was not so subtly trying to get us to stay at his hostel. Luckily we had made prior arrangements and thank goodness as our hostel (deejai backpackers) is so much better and with a lot nicer vibe.
At this point it's 7am so we checked in and went to our room (a 4 bed mixed dorm with bunk beds - not sure I've been on a bunk bed since I was 5!) where we quickly apologised for waking a sleeping boy (I use the term as he looked about 12) and got into bed for a few hours sleep - aircon at last woo!
