Woke up this morning after a rather uncomfortable nights sleep - it's so hot here and with only a fan swirling around the hot air it didn't do a whole lot (note to self future hostels must have air con)!
Got up and went down for breakfast, which consisted of hot dog sausages, an egg and toast with a smiley face.
After a pleasant cold shower we decided to hit the MBK centre, a shopping mall in the city centre. 2,000 small stores all under one roof. Trying to find things became difficult with so many other distractions. We decided to take our lives into our own hands to get there and ventured to the main road where it didn't take long to get a tuk tuk.
We trawled through the many stalls, purchasing a bag and then headed to Baskin Robins for a refreshing strawberry smoothie (the inner American in me coming out).
We took another tuk tuk back to the hostel and then booked our excursions for the next 2 days - off to the floating market and river Kwai tomorrow and then ayutthaya on Thursday.
After much discussion we decided that there wasn't much left in Bangkok for us so we'd swiftly move on to Chiang Mai. Booking our transport there became a bit of a mission. Train, Plane, Bus, Train, Plain and then finally settling on bus again it was finally decided. Leave on Thursday evening and taking the overnight bus - should be fun.....not!
Back in the room we started to get ready for the evening, even bursting into an impromptu singing of the sound of music and favourite things!
We decided to head down to Koh San Road with Christine, a lady from our hostel who was travelling alone and as she was bit older scared to ask others. Clearly we look like lovely people and happily obliged. There we indulged in some proper pad thai and spring rolls and and later put my bartering skills to use. I use the term skills loosely tho!
During the walk back to the hostel we sweated off the food we'd eaten in what is still very hot temperatures at 11pm and the headed to bed.
Well that was the plan until Mel realised the keys had some how magically fallen under the lining of her bag with no obvious hole in the bag. After emptying the contents of her bag on the floor outside our door, 5 minutes of us both looking and an embarrassing trip downstairs where the very nice thai lady immediately found the hole in her bag solving our dilemma and we were in and ready for sleep.
