Today was pretty uneventful really. We checked out of the hostel and got a taxi to the ferry terminal and checked in for the ferry. We got a drink and a bite to eat in a cafe at the ferry terminal, it was terrible! When we went through to the departure lounge there was a small duty free shop so we got a bottle of Oak Bacardi for the room. The ferry was really nice, much much nice than the ones in Thailand, there were seats for everyone, a cafe and it showed Tom and Jerry!! When we got to Bintan ferry terminal we were last off the ferry as we had to wait to get our bags that we'd carried on rather than checking in so then we were last queuing up for a visa and then last to go through passport control! When we booked the accommodation we also booked a transfer taxi so the guy was waiting for us when we eventually got through! The drive to the resort was about 45 minutes and on the way we saw 3 bush fires, one that was just smoking and all black and two that the fire brigade were attending to! When we got to the resort it was so beautiful, very basic but gorgeous, right on the beach and just 8 private rooms. The restaurant is very basic but will have to do as that's all there is for ages around! We put our stuff in the room which was huge with 2 double beds and then I went and laid in the hammock on the beach whilst Adam played guitar on the porch. After about half an hour my back was itching like mad and I was covered in little sandflies, I had to get in the shower to get them all off!! As we only have electricity from 6pm to 6am and no aircon just a fan the room was roasting and one of the windows didn't have a shutter or a curtain so we had to improvise and hang a towel from 2 screws to stop the sun coming in and heating the room! We decided to try out the restaurant and play a few hands of cards, we got a chicken fried rice dish which was actually quite nice, it came with a piece of fried chicken which was really quite salty... We are the only people staying at the resort at the moment so the staff wanted to know if we'd be eating again today so we said probably and headed back to the room for showers and to chill out for a bit, after a while the generator kicked in and we could have the fan on! We went back over to the restaurant and the menu only has chicken and fish (not sure what fish) and you could have that in a few different ways so we both had hot and spicy chicken but I said not too much spice for me. You could hear them in the kitchen literally chopping the chicken to bits, when it came it was just chunks of chicken with bones that they had just hacked off. The chicken was nice but still too spicy for me even though I said not too much. After we'd eaten we asked for a few cans of coke and some ice to take back to the room so we could have a few rum and cokes and a few games of cards on the porch. Adam got loads of sandflies on him and was getting stressed out having to pick them off himself all the time!! When we got in to bed it was so hot and the fan just blew hot air on you but we managed to eventually fall asleep!
