So today we woke up at 7.24 because I didn't hear my phone ringing earlier - I have to sleep with ear plugs because loud noise disturbs me. We took the subway and skytrain to the pier. From there we took a river boat to the place from where we were supposed to get to the other side of the river - except we couldn't. So we had to walk to a bridge and then cross the river. From there we were going to take a tuk-tuk, but it was impossible to find one, so we just kept walking to one direction (pun intended, haha). After a while we stopped a taxi to ask him if he knew where the floating market was but he said it was closed on weekdays so we asked if there was another floating market somewhere. He didn't know, but drove us to a tourist police place near the river. We asked them if there was a floating market that was open today and a woman told us "yes yes open in ____" but all the places she suggested were a bit far away (70-100km), though she used the word "near" before telling us the distance in kilometers. What bulls***.
So apparently we weren't going to see a floating market after all... We crossed the bridge back to the other side while examining our map and realized that Khao San road (famous backpacker road) was quite close (that is, in Bangkok scale). So we took a tuk-tuk and went there.
We didn't walk far on Khao San road before a man came and offered his tuk-tuk services to go and see famous sights nearby (including the palace which we wanted to see) for 10B/h/person (which is almost equal to nothing, 0,25€). The catch? We had to stop by a jewellery shop, a tailor shop and a tourist information shop in between the sights. But that wasn't bad considering the price, so we just went with it and came up with very good excuses why we wouldn't buy any stuff.
We are going to stay in Thailand for two more weeks and are thinking about going up to the north, but we need time to think about where to go. That one was a lie of course. And we couldn't tell the tailor we're leaving tomorrow, so we said we'd be here for another week and just looked through all the catalogues.
We actually ended up paying only 10B(!) for the whole sightseeing tour because the first driver left (we hadn't paid him) after we'd seen two sights, and he had appointed a new driver to us to whom we only paid 10B for a ride to the palace (via a tourist information office).
We saw a giant buddha, the golden mount, hanged outside a temple or something and wouldn't have been allowed into the palace. We could've borrowed appropriate clothing since shorts and tanktop aren't, but we had a glance at the entrance fee to the palace - 400 baht (unless it was the deposit for borrowing clothes) - and decided not to. So we just headed back to the hotel via MBK Center to eat lunch (at this point it wasn't even 2pm since we woke up at friggin' 7.24).
Back at the hotel we swam in the pool and just relaxed. We ate a very classy microwave dinner from 7-11 since we've only got a little cash left and have to save most of it for transportation to the airport. Now we're going to pack our bags since we're leaving tomorrow morning! Bali here we come!
Toodaloo!
