A recap from the last few days:
On the 10th we came back from Phi Phi; we took a minibus from the Phuket port back to Patong beach. We had booked a hotel called Lepa's place the night before at an internet café on Phi Phi. But the driver didn't know where it was, even though I showed him the address and had a picture of its location on a map. Apparently an address doesn't mean s*** to them. Fortunately he drove the street near the beach so we knew where we were and soon we saw a sign up on a building that said "Lepa's place". It had a flag that looked awfully familiar, but the blue looked a bit black so we weren't sure. But when we came to the hotel (we talked Swedish and probably said some Finnish words) our suspicions were confirmed as the owner started speaking Finnish to us. That was a surprise since we had no idea the hotel was driven by a Finn.
Well, we just chilled at the room, went out for a bite and later on out for drinks with some Aussies we met a couple of nights before.
The next day we were a bit hungover even though we hadn't drunk a lot. The heat gets you drunk easier and makes the hangover worse, that's what we've noted. When we checked out from the hotel, there was a Finnish girl at the reception, who apparently worked there. She came there to do a work practice for her studies and she didn't know anyone there, so we promised we'd meet her for dinner and show her around. It was fun meeting her and talking about home and travelling. Too bad we could only hang out for one evening. If you're reading this, I hope you'll find some friends there. :)
Yesterday we flew back to Bangkok. It took almost 1.5 hours to our hotel by a local bus, skytrain and the subway. But it was quite a distance, so no wonder. And it was a lot cheaper than a taxi too, the whole trip cost like 2€/person.
In the evening, when we walked to a street nearby our hotel looking for a place to eat, we met a German woman who was looking for a restaurant too. She joined us to a restaurant where there were only locals. She had been travelling in Asia for four months on her own and was going to Indonesia for two months after Bangkok. We told her about our travels too and when we mentioned we would like to go to a floating market and see the palaces, she gladly helped us. That was nice because otherwise we would have had to ask the hotel reception (since we don't know our way around here) and they would maybe have recommended a group trip or something expensive. Apparently it's best to go there EARLY in the morning (she'd been there 7.30am) because there are almost no tourists and it's not very crowded. So tomorrow were waking up early!
Today it's Laura's birthday, so we went to the movies at MBK Center (a shopping mall) and saw Skyfall. It was a deluxe movie theater with wide seats and you could tilt your seat back, so it was really comfy. Since the theater's air conditioned it gets a bit chilly in shorts and a tanktop, so they even provided blankets for everyone. Despite all this, the tickets were almost half the price each (6,3€ to be precise) compared to Finland!
After the movies it was already 9.30pm so no restaurants were open anymore, or then they were about to close. So we took the subway and skytrain back to our hotel and stopped by a 7-11 to buy some food. I bought a microwave dinner of chicken teriyaki with rice and it only cost 0,75€! Same stuff in Finland would probably cost five times as much!
But now we really have to go to bed if we're going to wake up at 7am!
So toodaloo!
